    Hello Sony Vaio Gurus,

    I have a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ34GP / PCG-6NEP laptop.
The LCD back light has randomly decided to no longer work properly.
If I look hard enough, I can see the screen and what's being displayed on it, just without the light so this indicates the LCD screen isn't dead.

Is this a common issue? How can I fix this on the cheap?

I was reading around the place to simply replace the LCD ballast and the screen will work, as shown here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYtXJpf__UQ

Maybe you guys could shed some light on the situation
