Oooooo so sexy. I want one. Anybody?
:sony: -
Looks like I found the replacement for my brand new s-580.
I really want to know why they chose to put the finger print reader between the mouse keys. I would rather see it near the top and out of the way of the working area of the laptop.
Also, it there any specs on the graphics cards available? I love the 6400 on my current model, probobly the deciding factor on why I got it.
Overall I will take a good look at the new SZ come march. -
The SZ will be using a revolutionary Hybrid Graphics System which allows u toggle between an internal graphics chip for optimal power consumption and an external graphics chip for even more robust performance.
As for the external graphics, sony hasn't released the specs yet, but i believe it might be the nvidia 7400
:sony: -
It is 7400 according to the picture in this Japanese website:
http://plusd.itmedia.co.jp/pcupdate/articles/0601/05/news044.html
Also, somehow the SZ looks larger and more squared than a regular S -- even though it will be thinner and lighter (at least for the premium model, not sure about the standard), but boy am I glad to see the dedicated PGUP/PGDN key column. -
wow darn makes me kinda a 'lil' regret getting my S58GP ... this machine looks awesome
-
Anyone know if it will be available with the new Intel Centrino Duo processor?
-
Yup it will come with the T2400
-
It looks like they really hit a home run combining a webcam, pic plus built in finger print reader. A first from Sony if i'm not incorrect.
The finger print reader has been something Fujitsu and IBM have been offering business class customers from some time now.
This is going to be my next laptop unless they upgrade the TX series to Intel Duo with those extra features. -
Yep u r right. They finally put together all that in one business class machine - while still keeping some good hardware like the vga, which is seriously lacking in other business class machines like ibm and fujitsu. Sony definitely has the upper hand as seen from this upcoming SZ ...
I wonder if the purple version is available outside japan. somehow it's trademark of the old vaios.. hope they can bring the 'metallic purple' flavour back hehe... -
So the first machine will be out later this month? And then the 'Premium' one comming out in April correct? Do you think it is safe to go ahead and purchase this when it is released or should we wait for testing/reviews ect? What do we know about Duo Core and heat/noise ?
-
Anyone knows when the New SZ series will be lounched in EUROPE?!
i dont want to buy the old S series from the sony online shop. when the knew one is soon released!?
/thanks for answer

Cheers m8
-
Sure that article is for notebook processors or perhaps desktop ones?
-
Considoring this machine is going to be ultra-thin (like many other ultraportables on the market), and the lcd is going to be especially thin, could overall build quality become an issue? With such a thin lcd could it not flex more likely than others and/or have a somewhat 'flimsy' feel to it? I've handled thin notebooks where the the lcd just felt too tiny and prone to damage for its own good.
-
sony tx was ultra thin.. but then it doesn't feel like it's such a fragile piece of equipment to me. But well I suggest waiting for more reviews to be out on this new S.
-
this notebook looks beautiful...seriously...
I wanna see benchmarks for the 7400 in this baby..also id like to know the Resolution of the screen...
Other than that...WOWOWWOWOOWOWOW -
posted some pics of the VAIO SZ and FE here
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=1219571
saw it in person at the CES show, very nice looking notebook
-
Abaxter, did you manage to get a feel of the SZ? Is it flimsy??
Let's bug sony to giv us a sample for review
-
I want it now!!! It's beauty and brains all in one sexy package.
-
I really like the idea of the Carbon fiber casing. I think that it'll become a trend to start integrating CF casing into all the high end notebooks, barring the 17" ones for the time being. What more could one want with a more durable yet lighter material? This will make notebooks even thinner and lighter.
-
Carbon fiber casing is extremely stiff - I doubt it will flex at all.
That FZ is badass
-
The LCD panel flexes a lot, in fact I'd be worried about it if I owned one. They wanted to make it razor thin, but it's not as rigid as I expected. Easy to get screen ripple, etc.
-
And can screen rippling cause long-term damage? (I do not know a whole lot regarding various 'quality control' measures used on laptops). Or does the machine still have to be knocked around pretty hard to sustain damage?
-
Well, even if no one believes me ;-) Sony Europe plans to ship first SZ1-Vaios in March, not in February. Prices remind me of the introduction of the Z1-series... - kinda ridiculous, the XP version is said to cost 2500 euros.
-
Ripples won't hurt it on their own, it just indicates that the panel is less protected from blunt force.
-
soo we that lives in Europe, needs to wait 1 or 2 months more then the US ???
I live in sweden , and im realy want the Sonys Vaio SZ...
Been looking for the S series today, but i rather wait 1 month or two. for Sz..
anyone knows the euope launch?? -
2500 Euros! You gotta be kiddin' me...
-
Well remember the SonyVaio S5XP had a listed price on Sonystyle of 2500 Euros as well. Totally off the hook I agree, but I think as soon as retailers around the country get the notebooks prices will fall to ~2200-2300 Euros pretty quick.
-
fully loaded with a t2500 or 2600 and 120GB and 2gb ram, sony sz will exceed 3000$.
-
It might hit $3000 US fully spec'd out, ya I agree. Prices should float around $2300 for regular spec'd ones.
-
Nope, its the truth. We get 'em later and they will be more expensive.
And yes, there will be the typical low-spec'd M-version and a high-spec'd XP-version (i.e. VGN-SZ1XP for 2500 euros and VGN-SZ1M for around 2000 euros) They might bring out a third version to be sold only in SonyStyle-Stores.
-
Anyone know what video card the 7400 is comparable to? x700? Any ideas about gaming on this?? Hopefully it can handle WOW
-
Pre-ordered? When would they be officially available?
-
And they have just recently pushed the US date back to the 24th rather than the 17th, who knows when they will be available? I am still interested though.
-
No they havent, what are your sources eh?
Check Sony Style VAIO official SZ site still 17th. -
gearhead is rite
check http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INT...NotebookComputers&CP=sony_hm_nav_elec_nbkshop
Says Pre-sales begin January 24th... -
No it doesnt.

"Come back to this page on or after January 17th, 2006 to place your order. "
Same thing for the SZ Series. -
sony did changed the preorder date to Jan 24th !!
go check the main notebook page in sonystyle.com
** they're just too lazy to go change the text in the SZ and FE's page -.-' -
Oh I see it now, my bad.
-
here is a picture comparing the standard and premium version. -
based on Sony's recent history guess I wouldn't hold my breath - when even the "Pre-order" date is pushed back its pretty bad
how hard is it to to get the order page up and what possible reason/effect is there to push an order date back? -
Guys, this laptop is definitely going to make you look good in front of the ladies.
Actually, you'll just have two processors instead of one, a thinner lcd and the same crappy windows operating system as before. ;P
Even though the NVIDIA Go 7400 is the lowest end of it's class, it will support Windows Vista.
So the good news is you'll still be able to crash your computer but it's going to look really cool with the glass windows. -
bad thing is you the camera cannot be flipped so you can look at the screen while recording.
-
Anyone know how much the SZ is going to cost?
-
$1999 upwards
-
How come Sony when it showed one the of the laptops configuration, to be the premium version? I though they were coming out much later...
-
Who is ordering there SZ tomorrow and which model? Let's also start guessing when we will recieve them. I would like to get the premium screen but it looks alittle too thin and if the standard is as good as the old S series I will be happy.
Ladies and gents, i present you the VAIO SZ :)
