Hello~ I have a Sony Vaio Model pcg-8m2L This is my friends laptop and in a fight with his girlfriend, out of anger he threw it on the floor. He told me if I can fix it I can keep it. The monitor is I'm sure not fixable. I have plugged in a desktop monitor and when I startup It tries to start but freezes with windons xp on the monitor. Does this sound like the hard drive is not loading? Can I rule out the motherboard because its trying to load up?

Have you tried booting in SAFE MODE? Press F8 while loading, then select SAFE MODE. If it boots up in safe mode, your half-way there.

What I would do is try reinstalling everything. Put in the recovery cd of the laptop, boot from it, and try a new installation. If that does not work, then you can start looking at hardware problems and start you diagnosis from there.

Hi it can be that the components inside the laptop may have been loose when it was dropped. You might wanna check the inside see if any cable is loose, try to reseat the memory, hard drive...

That's gonna be sweet if you can get it running.

If you know the monitor is fine, but the mobo is dead, buy a replacement mobo on eBay and just swap in all your current parts into the new mobo. Get a new (and possibly larger) hard drive and you are in business.

Are you talking about a replacement LCD? Any external monitor will be fine with the notebook, but replacing the LCD is more specific--particularly with the fit.
