Okay, I am seriously at loss here...

I received a laptop to fix for someone, with problem with the screen, where it would turn this "White-grayish" color immediately after turning on. At first, I thought it was the onboard GPU, but then I disassembled the laptop, and disconnected the laptop's monitor and plugged an external one with VGA port and it worked fine!

So I ordered a replacement screen for the laptop (and harness cable) but after connecting it, it STILL has the white-grayish color! How??? It works fine when plugged in externally, why not with a new screen?? I know it's not the GPU since it works with an external monitor, so I'm stumped here :err:
    What can I do???

Any help would be appreciated thanks

    Edit:
    Model: Sony Vaio VPCEG

Clean the contacts to the connector for the LCD. Take a soft bristled toothbrush and some 99.999% alcohol and scrub away.* Obviously let it dry fully before reconnecting. One of the pins could also be corroded/broken, in that case you're out of luck.

*Don't hold me responsible if something worse happens, but it should be safe.

See this video on the connector to make sure it's securely engaged:

Software issue? Try booting Linux off a live cd or pen drive.

It still doesn't work no matter how I plug it in, turning it on even with a new screen I get instant greyish with white vertical lines. YET somehow it works perfectly on an external monitor via VGA!
