Hi , I have a SONY VAIO VPCF13S03. I have my first original battery and a new one too.
First slowly failed so I bought a new one. Both are not charging at all. Both suddenly got the ISBMrg non authentic error so I had to disable that exe.
Laptop only starts on AC, *but* only boots if power button is pressed within a few ssecondsof plugging in to laptop, if it is plugged in for even a minute the power button flashes green then immediately dims and doesnt start.
the laptop only has a little plugged in icon when plugged in without battery.
When plugged in with battery the Icon on the task bar is just an empty rectangle, no plug symbol.
The laptop powercfg thing says it is always running off of battery.
Now battery 1 is "unknown remaining" on system it comes up as "???" but when clicked on it says "100% calculating...."
batteryCare download app lists it as 100% discharging but with no other info.
If ac removed pc cuts out.
PC cuts out if bat removed while on AC and in BIOS.
Batt 2 is listed as ??? , 0%, red x,, and it has the same no plug, no charging.Sonycorp original.
I recently replaced the broken ac jack, cleaned battery copper connections etc but nothing is working.
I also did the uninstalling Bat and ac adapter drivers while on just on ac, switching off then on with battery re installed.
I'd really like to get portability back, and make use of the new battery I bought If anyone has any suggestions, or is the laptop motherboard actually defective? It works ok (although the fan has always been loud) so I will survive using it as a tethered desk top.
Does CMOS voltage affect any of this? not that I can find it's V level through an apps etc.
It's a mess of contradictory battery readings (and non readings).
Thanks in advance.
B
(additional info , newly upgraded to win 10 but i think there were issues before, but i only bought new bat to troubleshoot charging after I upgraded.)
edit:also a couple of days ago I installed the most recent bios on my laptop. Didnt help.

How did you upgrade to Win 10? AFAIK you will need to reinstall most of the Sony drivers and utilities. IMHO you would be better off doing a clean install, following a guide for your model.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I upgraded as everyone else would have using the tools on the microsoft website, they offered the free upgrade etc. I've reinstalled all missing drivers etc. As far as I can tell all sony utilities are still there In place. If you have a suggestion as to which drivers or utilities may be messed up and that I should try and replace, I'll give that a shot. I havent discovered a guide for my model. .I amn't exactly excited to install windows again Ive done it on three laptops , one where it failed and I had to clean the hdd and start again. And the other two have been very buggy and its been days and days of nonsense getting them all to work . This machine is working fine bar it's ongoing battery issue. Also it was days of faf to get all my settings done and delete all the tracking stuff they'd put in my machine. The power problems were there in win 7 too. I have seen a few threads online with people with pretty similar issues but none seemed to ever write their solution on the threads, they just disappear.

I have a different model, so take these instructions with a large pinch of salt. Look at the support page for your model and go through the drivers listed there. They might have updates; some of those need the originally released driver to be installed first, then updated. Some of these, especially the updates, need to be installed with admin privileges.
The stuff I need are as follows, in install order:
SFEP
Setting utility series
Sony shared library
Vaio event service
Vaio control center
Battery checker
Vaio power management
I have encountered the battery error a few times, but mine is the original battery that came with the laptop, so a bit of fiddling got everything back to normal. -
hi sorry i was away for a few days! I'm downloading now.... then what? Install and see ?
Thanks for your reply! -
oh, there doesnt seem to be a battery checker https://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/content/cnt-dwnl/VPCF13S0E/list
-
Failed already, I downloaded the SFEP thing but i tried to run it and it failed saying "YUou have a 64 bit machine contact vendor" .The download was listed as 32/64 bit though? I dont understand what to do .

And just tried installing power management but it says this OS doesnt support it so it failed. Im on Win 10 now.

Is it really possible it could be CMOS battery too low? I havent had clock reset issues.. I cant find on google CMOS bat info / location for the VPCF13S0E. I have taken it apart but i forgot to pay much attention to the cmos, i could take apart to look I guess. but i dont know if replacements must be plastic wrapped or if u can slip new shop bouht bats in to plastic shrink case?
Laptop battery not recognized, listed as "???",Icon is of empty battery, when clicked on it says 100%
