First, please move my thread to more apropriate part of the forum if moderators think it does not belong here.

Today, my SZ6 died, seems like mobo is dead.

But I urgently need a computer to work on, in a few hours. It would be really good if I could put HDD from laptop into my desktop and boot from it, but trying so did not work - BSOD and reset. I think the problem is chipset which was Intel on my laptop and is VIA on my desktop.

Is there a way to repair current windows 7 installation to recognise my desktop's mobo and everything would work just fine? Maybe some "rebuild" option or similar? is there a way how to "delete" mobo drivers from windows installation and next time it boots it will recognise new chipset and install proper drivers?

Any ideas? Using my laptop's HDD as an external drive is the least possible way, since I need fully OS access

As long as you aren't using EFS or bitlocker, you can probably just do a repair

Only way I know how to do a mini-setup is through sysprep, but it's too late for that.

Sorry, hope you get your stuff back.

well you can buy a external housing and put the laptop drive in it. boot your desktop and plug it in via the usb. then browse the drive and take the files you need off it
