Can somebody please tell me what the normal temperatures for the SZ38gp/c is?

During these few months it's been really hot near the fan and the fan makes rumbling/scraping noises that I never heard before. Also, it's been shutting down unexpectedly whilst playing games.

I ran speedfan, the temperatures are as follows:
    HD0: 48C(only one with a tick)
    Temp1: 89C
    Temp2: 90C
    Temp3: 91C
    Core 0: 69C
    Core 1: 69C

    When running a game:
    HD0: 49C
    Temp1: 91C
    Temp2: 90C
    Temp3: 91C
    Core 0: 77C
    Core 1: 77C
    Are these normal?

They're terrible!!!!!!! Clean your vents, undervolt the CPU, and check out Chaz's cooling guide! A cooling pad might be a good idea

    a couple of questions:

    1. how long has it been since you cleaned out the fan/heatsink?

    2. are there any spyware/malware/or just processes that hang at 100%cpu?

my temps never get that high and i'm talking about encoding vids during the summer (this summer was the hottest thus far for me) without any air conditioning.

about service... the job is so easy that you can do it yourself.

I've never cleaned it out before. (so... one year after buying the laptop)
NO, there isn't any processes at 100% cpu... It's at... about 30% most of the time.

Sony Service says they can do it for free under warranty...

The temperature varies so much... 67C for Temp1, 65C for Temp2, 56C for Temp3, 65C for Core0, 67 for Core1 now. But I've noticed that the longer I leave the laptop on the higher it gets...

But still, one year without cleaning it. Do I need to clean it?

if it's 30% during idle then that's not normal. kill the process that's doing this. it should lower the temps.

but if it's 30% on load then i would suggest cleaning. 50% loads bump my temps up 10-20 degrees depending on ambient temperature

i'm not sure if sony would service these but it wouldn't hurt to try.

    Here is my Temp

    Power Saving: 1 Ghz

With laptop cooler Low 42C - High 50C
Without laptop cooler Low 47C - High 52C

    High Performance 2Ghz

With laptop cooler Low 53 - High 64C
Without laptop cooler Low 55 - High 69C

You can replace the normal Thermal Compounds and replace it with Arctic Silver 5

    1. Remove the 4 screw at the bottom
    2. Remove 2 more screws off that connects the cooper heat pipes
    3. Take some rubbing alcohol and remove the old compound from the cooper pipes and CPU
    4. Put very little amount of "Arctic Silver 5"
    5. Put everything back together

This lower my laptop temp around 3C - 5C.

    Hope that helps.

    ahem...

open up the panels to get as close to the fans and vents as possible
    - use a flashlight to see if you can see through the vents... i am wagering that you will not see anything do to the dust clogs.. tsk tsk
    - then get some Q-tips and compressed air cans (or compressor) and clean out your vents.

Then monitor those temps again, it should be a remarkable improvement.

Always use your notebook on a trusted flat clean surface (NEVER on laps, sofas, beds, etc.. things that can block the vents from getting air)
