After anxiously awaiting Sony's release of the INTEL Wireless software and driver for my FS-850, I am pleased that it appears the memory leak with S24EvMon.exe has been "fixed". It stays around 5MB of memory usage after several minutes of use.

The webpage is located at: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNFS850&upd_id=2348&os_id=7

However, that process and ZCfgSvc.exe both consume more CPU cycles than I think they should, thus causing my laptop to be a bit sluggish.

Is anyone else experiencing this???

And if so, have you found a workaround? I need my wireless, and if I "kill" the ZCfgSvc process things improve--but I can't activate the wireless software, though---which is OK for single extended sessions.

This almost makes me want to just delete it all and go back to the simple WinXP wireless tool.

    TIA

EDIT: Disable the Intel utility (ZCfgSvc). Use XP's WiFi manager; I have always found XP's to be faster and easier on resources.

Update all your drivers, scan for viruses, and update XP all to the latest stuff. I would also suggest you look for Intel's drivers for Intel's WiFi card on Intel's site. Sony (and others) take their sweet time before updating their pages to reflect newer drivers. Most of this stuff is optional, but it might help gain a little extra performance.

Yes!! You are correct. That is exactly what I wound up doing. I have been getting the "latest" from the Intel site....so, when Sony's site had the update last week--I thought things would go well...... :(

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to give an excellent reply.

    Sincerely,
