I installed the latest 314.07 driver with the Beta4 patcher (VGA) and everything is fine. Brightness control, HDMI, all work just fine.

Speaking of monitors, if I wanto to plug a WQXGA monitor with the HDMI I would need an active adapter, right?

No you would not, you would need an EDID hack and an HDMI>DVI cable, actually there are many cables that will work. I use a DVI>DVI cable from the dock to the U3011. I have heard of someone using an HDMI>HDMI cable and that aparently works also, but I've never tried it.
At any rate, here is the info on EDID overrides for the Z1 http://forum.notebookreview.com/son...ithout-vidock-works-but-i-need-some-help.html
This should work on other systems also. I got the idea from this thread about the Z2 http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/602724-success-2560x1440-support-new-vpc-z2-dell-u2711.html

Since you already have the BIOS hack and the good drivers the 330M this will be pretty easy to pull of. The latest nVidia drivers will help you get the proper pixel clock easily.

I have been trying to get everyone that has made EDID overrides to send me their INF files. The goal is to have a bunch of them collected to share with others. The thing about the EDID override is that the one from the second thread that was made for the U2711 will work on the Z1, and the ones that I have made for the U3011 will work on other systems. nVidia hardware is NOT required for the EDID override to work. These INF files should work with Intel and ATI/AMD chips also. The point is that if you want to run WQXGA and you don't have a monitor yet, you may as well just get a U3011, it's a great monitor and the drivers for it are already made.

That's interesting news. Yes, I was thinking of a DELL monitor, but the 27" version. Even tough I read about these Korean monitor with the same panels of the Apple monitor for around 400$ and I might try one.

Still, I need a HDMI to dual DVI cable right? The normal HDMI to DVI isn't enough.

There really is no such thing as HDMI to Dual Link DVI cable. HDMI has a single TDMS link. There isn't any way to wire everything from the Dual Link DVI end over to HDMI, it doesn't work like that. The EDID hack is based on the theory of reducing the pixel clock/refresh rate in order to run more resolution on a single TDMS link. If HDMI was a Dual Link interface it would natively support WQXGA resolution just like Dual Link DVI does. Any HDMI>DVI cable of reasonable quality should work.

Maybe it's a bit OT, but is there anyone that knows how to enable CUDA, raytracing, etc. support on the Adobe Suite (in particular After Effects)?

I followed this guide, but despite mentioning the GeForce 330M GT in the list, and actually adding it, it is still not recognized by After Effects.

Is it because I'm running the 314.07 drivers (VGA patch)? Do older ones work?

For whoever might be interested, it works! Just make sure to follow also this guide, even if you are not using Optimus drivers, and restart after applying the changes.

For some strange reason, when I output via VGA under windows 8, it disconnects and reverts to the internal LCD after about 5 or so seconds, each and every time. But my HDMI works great. I used the VGA patch method.

I have had that issue with the HDMI patch... but I haven't tried the VGA patch with the latest drivers yet.

For now if you really need VGA you can go back a driver version or two and you should be able to get it working. I can run some tests but I won't have time to do that for at least a week.

hey, could not find anything about my issue:

i cannot install the Intel drivers. it says something like my system does not have the minimum requirements to install the software (in german).

i made the bios hack and installed the patched Nvidia 314 drivers. they worky well, but when i switch to stamina i cannot install the intel drivers, i always get this error message...

You can't install the intel driver because the patched nvidia driver uses your dedicated graphics at all.

yes, the stamina light is on, and windows is in vga mode when i boot. i then have 'standard VGA graphics card' in the device manager. but no chance to install the intel drivers... i tried with the setup.exe and by unpacking them manually and choosing it from the device manager. the setup.exe directly gives me the error message that my system does not have the minimum requirements and the manual installation from the device manager tells me, that the driver is not compatible with my windows version. i have win7 professional 64-bit and have downloaded the "win64_152812.exe" file from intel... should be all good, no?

or would i need the 32bit drivers for some reason? or could it be that there are some older files from the hybrid driver left? how can i check that?

    Hi ComputerCowboy

I have a trouble here. Just installed the latest update 314.07, then my resolution changed to lower resolution, and I can't change back to the original high resoltuion 1600x900 unless I reinstall the software to factory standard

may be have you idea why that happend.?

Or may be it's because I didn't hack the bios and make the VGA Switching Policy to static.?

    Thanks for your help

I hacked the bios already, just want to know, after I patched the driver in Static mode, can I switch back to Auto mode?
I haven't updated the driver cause I found that if I switch to Static mode, the auto light control doesn't work anymore, but works in Auto mode.
    Can some one help?

You can put the policy back to Auto in the BIOS but then you can't run the hacked drivers, only the Hybrid or Optimus drivers will work.

You should be able to get the light control to work in static mode. It might take some fiddling around. What drivers are you running now?

There is no point of using the hybrid drivers with the BIOS hack. Furthermore the Hybrids will not work properly with the "Static" policy, as you have discovered. Likewise you will be unable to use the hacked drivers with the "Dynamic" policy. So you will need to make a choice. You can always go back to the Dynamic/Hybrid scenario if you decide that Static/Hacked is not for you.

There is a lot of discussion about that in this thread, I don't really have a clear answer for you on that because it is not an exact science. Mine is not currently working but the brightness slider on the Windows 8 charms menu is working... so I haven't put any effort into making it work. I do know that the pre-300 series drivers seemed to work better with brightness control without having to mess with it all that much. I am sorry that there is no clear answer.

Which hack did you use? VGA or 3D Vision?

Hi guys, just a quick one. Do you know of any BIOS hacks for the Vaio VPCS12V9E laptop? I need to find a way to disable my dGPU so I can use an eGPU.

    Thank you

Did you overclocked the GPU? I am using EVGA Precision and sometimes with graphic intensive applications (such as Unreal Engine, or 3D rendering) it shuts down.

    Hey; that sounds very familiar.
I have the same issue (European Model), so I have to decide buying a new one (even if the Vajo still works as expected - except the shutdowns, sometimes twice or more each day).
And I am as well not sure what the problem is.
It starts as stated with the ventilation going up and afterwards without any warning shutting down...

Any help is very welcomed (any BIOS settings, BIOS hack is applied and Nvidida-Version 310.90?).

Not sure if I missed reading this somewhere, but does using this driver hack prevent me from using stamina mode (Intel HD graphics)? I can't seem to install the required Intel drivers - they don't seem to be required!

Yes, you can use the stamina mode just by setting the manual switch to stamina and restarting.

You need to install the driver for the Intel card when you are in Stamina mode. When you are in Speed mode only the Nvidia card is used and thus the Intel drivers are not required.

Just installed the 320.18 drivers with ComputerCowboy Patcher BETA 4 VGA method and everything works perfectly.

HDMI and VGA out, Windows brightness controls, etc. Too bad the new Nvidia Experience doesn't support the 300 series.

I wonder if 3DVision will work also.

I haven't updated in a while. My brightness works but only from the Windows 8 Charms Menu. Are you saying the Fn keys work?

I am currently using version 306.97. Today, I tried to install 320.18 with the patcher. (followed all the instructions) and failed. It says " A system restart is required. Restart the system and try again" right after system check. Am I missing sth., any suggestions?

No, it is as you say. It works only from the Charms menu, same as before.

I used the same procedure as usual and it worked straight away: patch new drivers, uninstall old ones, safe mode, Driver Sweeper, restart in test mode, install.

I get the same problem for the Intel Win64_152815 drivers but the GMA driver Win7Vista_64_152258 works fine..

I don't think any of the .3XXX build drivers work now without .inf modification.

Meantime, I was also able to get nearly the latest .2xxx build drivers (8.15.10. 2827) by using Intel Driver Update.

    Latest is .2993.

I am unable to get audio out via HDMI when I plug my laptop into a TV - the TV does not show in the "Playback Devices" tab under Sound. Is there some way to fix this? I'm using the 3D vision drivers, 320.18.

    Hi Guys,

I recently hacked my BIOS and installed the 320.18 drivers (big thanks to ComputerCowboy btw) and everything seemed to run fine until recently.
Now I have random crash when I play certain game (e.g. Boorderland 2) and each time, the windows logs are reading a 6008 error.
I have few ideas regarding the reason but I'm not too sure
-I'll downgrade the driver to see if it changes anything
-Overheating ? But I really doubt that because when I run heavy computation on my Z1 I don't have any problem
-my 2 cents is that it comes from the RAM, I tested it using Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool but I'm never able to finish the test because my computer is systematically crashing during the process

If anyone has an idea on the issue It'll be deeply appreciated !

do you have two sticks of ram, try taking one out, then if it crashs swap them. If it only crashs with one stick and not the other you know that stick is bad.

I solved my issue, it was a overheating problem. I bought a cooling stand and everything is running fine.
I didn't overclock my card and before the hack I didn't have this problem....
Anyway now it's solved and the stand is not too noisy

I can't seem to get the driver to install on 8.1 I just did a upgrade and my resolution doesn't work above x1024 and i can't right click the desktop either, so i uninstalled all the drivers i had previously which was 320. and now i can't even install it back, it fails on driver installation for the gpu. why is that happening?

I'll be moving to 8.1 later this week and if there is a problem with the patch I will fix it.

I haven't had a chance to put 8.1 on my computer, been too busy. I am running it on another computer.

But I think I have a pretty good idea of what the problem, I'll have a look and see what I can do.
