My SZ160 has the camera capture utility (Vista) version 2.0, I was at BestBuy playing with the SZ650 and it's camera utility is version 2.3. Is there a way to get the latest version on my SZ160? I checked on the Sony Style website but it's combined with other downloads that I'm not sure will work on my model. Or will they?

The latest Vista version of VCCU is Ver.2.7.01 and it's available here. Make sure that you have this hotfix installed as well. Also, use Universal Extractor (I feel like I've said this a million times already) if the Sony installer somehow isn't able to complete.

Thanks! I did have to install universal extractor to install it but your comprehensive instructions worked perfectly!

Excellent! Sony gave me the runaround about the camera not being supported for Vista Ultimate, but after following your instructions the camera works in VAIO Camera Capture Utility! Of course, I don't actually use the camera, lol, but at least I can in the future. Does this fix work for videoconferencing?

    Thanks again! :)

    hi,

i followed your instructions, and have installed VCCU ver 2.7. but i'm only able to use the still image function. the movie mode still comes out with a blue screen and an "attempt to initialize camera failed" message.

I've tried to install the hotfix but it returns a "update does not apply to your system" message. someone pls pls help.... thank you.

What OS are you using? That hotfix should work if you're using Windows Vista 32-bit. There are many VCCU versions available. Search on Google and this forum to find them and try them all.

I register but I keep getting the same message!

"We're sorry, but your last request produced the following error:

I'm using Windows Vista Business - I guess should be 32-bit. I've actually successfully installed the hotfix once when I was using VCCU ver 2.1 and the cam didn't work properly. The hotfix solved the problem except that when I record video, it would speed the video up and the sound is not recorded.

I then installe VCCU ver 2.7 (and tried ver 2.3) and now only the picture works. When I switch to video, it gives me the error message and the blue screen.
