... several users reported a problem I also encountered. Namely, that the trackpads of their Vaio notebooks (I happen to be using a VPCZ1 but others were reported as problematic also) stopped being able to use the left mouse button. Through testing, forum contributors identified that the driver was handling a left mouse click as a both-left-and-right mouse click and that simply tapping the trackpad could be used as a workaround for a click (though dragging continued to be disabled).
I plugged in my Logitech gaming mouse and have been able to use it without problems. With some experimentation, I determined that the Vaio software was being set to record left mouse clicks as button-4 presses. Here's how I reset the software:
1) Get into the trackpad driver - for me, I tabbed around until I had the notification icons in the taskbar highlighted; I used the return key to bring up the menu, and then moved around with the arrow keys until the trackpad portion was selected
2) Right-click on this icon and choose "Pointing device properties"
3) Choose the tab with the red icon "Device Settings"
4) Choose the button "Settings"
5) Expand the "Buttons" option and choose Left Button Action
6) Change from "Button 4 Click ..." to "Primary Click ..."
That seemed to work for me. I also would like to suggest that perhaps the problem was installing the SetPoint software for my Logitech gaming mouse. I can't recall the install event, but it seemed like this option was automatically set when I installed that software. Had I known, I would have changed it back at the time.
