I received my sz160 this morning and for the most part am very happy with it. I had an Acer 5672 I kept for a few days and returned because of several things I didn't like, but I liked the computing power. The Sony corrects most all of the problems I had with the Acer.
Their is almost no heat around the keyboard area where you rest your hand which is where the Acer got quite hot. To me the speakers are better(clearer and louder), I had trouble hearing the Acer sometimes at full volume when playing a DVD. The battery life is twice or more what the Acer had(with the Intel onboard graphics) and the screen is brighter with better color. The color really seems dead on for an LCD laptop, I never did get the Acer looking this good even after quite a bit of adjusting.
About the only thing that bothers me with the Sony is the light bleed around the bottom edge of the screen. It is not severe, but is quite obvious when playing a DVD. In normal use I never notice it. What I wonder is if this a characteristic of this model or did I just get unlucky and get a screen with lightbleed. If I could have it replaced with another unit without light bleed, I would send it back. If not I like it well enough to live with this issue. I really love this laptop. The ergonomics are great for this size notebook. Anyone else with a 160 have this problem?

hi waxking,
do you have the sz160 permium with the led lit, thinner screen? if so - i only read some reports that state that the light bleed has been reduced to a great extend ever since sonys introduction of that technology with the tx series. however, there still is some light bleeding wich shouldn't worry you though. -

Yes it is the 160 premium. Is there a different SZ160 available, if there is I didn't realize it. If this is normal for this model I won't worry too much about it. For now I'm using the laptop mostly for internet and photoshop. I don't really plan on using it for watching DVDs much, so I won't see it very often.
-
most laptops I've seen have that... nothing to worry about
-
My premium 160 shows a bit of that when the screen is black...but it's very minor, and not really a factor when anything is actually displayed. If you mean it shows during DVD play when there is a black bar at top/bottom...I think you'll find that on most any laptop. Not a big deal at all. I am extremely impressed with the screen on this thing. Beautiful, sharp, accurate. No complaints.

I have the sz160 and don't notice any bottom bleed - I have my desktop color as black and see nothing on the bottom (after I move the toolbar out of the way).

This is what my lightbleed looks like. The First picture is the truer representation.

there is light leakage on pretty much ALL laptops... I've had probably 8 different brands and some are better or worse then Sony... so IT IS normal. If you are not happy... well there is nothing you can do about it. You can keep exchanging it until you get the perfect one, but I doubt that it will happen with Sony screens

I'm not unhappy enough to send it back. I just wonder why they can get it right on 3 edges.
-
That's normal. I've seen worse from Fujitsu and Dell.
-
I wouldn't be worried about some leakage at the bottom.
What I worry about are dead pixels smack in the middle of your screen. That can be a real downer after you drop all the money on a new machine.
If it's really a problem, you can adjust the screen resolution under Panel Options and select 'disable' Panel Fit so that it doesn't stretch to the very edges.
But I think that option is set at factory default anyway but it's worth a look.
