I have seen numerous threads on numerous sites that suggest leaving a battery charged at 40% instead of 100% all the time. But how to accomplish that feat??? Does anyone know if this is possible on the FZ series machines? I thought I had seen some discussion of this before but for the life of me I can't find it SPECIFIC to the FZ machines.

I've heard some people saying unplug it and then plug it back in to preserve the battery but i don't see how you can stop a rechargeable battery from charging fully. It sounds interesting though, maybe firmware\bios?

the 40% is mostly for ppl who dont use the battery for power. if your a normal battery user dont wrry about it and charge it fully because your battery will be fine if you use it.

That is precisely the point. I rarely use the battery at all. At my desk all day it is plugged into AC. At home on the couch at night, I also have it plugged in. I have two ac adapters one at each location. So only the machine travels back and forth. So to maximize the life of the battery, I would like to have it "hover" at 40% and only fully charge it when I plan to use it off AC.

to get it to around 40-50% just charge it a little more than half the time that it takes to charge the battery to full power.....it'll reach that range at that time

that works for most batteries so should work for the FZ, then just keep the battery in a cool place and it should be fine

That works great if you plan on pulling the battery out. I don't plan to do that, the battery serves as my UPS for my machine. Some Sony machines have the option of setting an upper charging limit at 40%. They will maintain the charge at that level with the battery in the machine. That's what I am trying to accomplish. This will extend the life of the batter, or at least that is what isbeing suggested.

Hey Gary, I found the Battery Care program in Setting Utility Service folder on my FZ4000, but all options are greyed out as well -- I had a semi-clean install. I would think FZ does support it, but just something in our semi-clean/clean install process it got disabled.

Hope you find a way to make it work. In the mean time, why don't you just delay plugging in when you move between your office and your couch?
