This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    For those who are interested... I've posted a page on my experiences with getting Linux up on a VGN-TXN25N. There are a few niggles, such as no brightness control, but overall it works great. Heck, it's way better than Vista... ;)

    Some notes:
    - brightness control works if you have the sony-laptop module loaded (newer kernel needed - I think around 2.6.21+)
    - xorg resolution is fine if you use a new version of xorg (7.1+?)
    - STR/S3 works on my TX850 (similar hardware), as long as you pass in acpi_sleep=s3_bios option to the kernel on boot
