    Longetivity of Sony Laptops

    Hello, I was wondering how long I can generally expect a Sony laptop to last, as I am interested in the TZ. Given that it hasn't been way too long since it came out, I don't suppose I can get any real numbers on if people have owned it for a number of years, but I want to see the quality of Sony laptops as a whole. I currently own a IBM thinkpad T40 that I bought 6 years ago, and I wanted to stay with a Lenovo and was attracted to the U110, but I think a Sony TZ might be more practical. But because I had my thinkpad as long as I did, I can't help but assume that Lenovo would last me for a good 5 years or so (even if it's an ideapad), so I would hope that a Sony TZ would be able to give me the same kind of long-term reliability. So any feedback on this would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

    it all depends on how you take care of your product. For Sony, It has a maximum of 3 years warranty which you have to pay another few hundred bucks for. Well, quality wise, I think the sony TZ can last 2-3 years under average care. I believe it is a bit better than the u110 in terms of built quality. For me I will wait for sony's new SR and Z series or at least the new line up from Lenovo's ultraportable Thinkpad. More Choices are always better

    It depends on the model, your needs, and your expectations. The graphics card on the TZ is pretty weak; I think you're looking at most 2, possibly 3 years with it before it starts to become a liability. My old S lasted 5 years and was still running strong when it was replaced. The current SZ Nvidia chipsets are defective so I wouldn't recommend them until that situation is resolved. My suggestion would be to have a look at the new SR line coming out. You may have to lower your expectations (in regards to customer service) a little when transitioning from Lenova to Sony.
