    Hey All,

I'm looking to get the bios firmware file for a VGN-SR51MF. I got a new battery that needed to do some sort of bios update to be properly recognised. When I ran the update it shut down the machine as expected but never came back up again. Now when I turn it on the power light goes green but nothing else happens at all!

Here's the files from the CD I got with the battery:

    http://www.afterhours.ie/manual.zip
    http://www.afterhours.ie/SonyBiosPatch_20110116a.zip

And here's the link to the official sony download page for my model:

    Download Page

If anyone can get me a copy of the correct bios and details on how to update it that would be VERY greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance (and thanks to pyr0 for trying to help me when I went using someone else's thread!).

You can support Gambl0r to get his laptop working again if you do followin procedure on your VGN-SR51. It takes only 10 minutes.

    1. We need to backup your BIOS image from a native DOS box. We create a USB flashdrive where we run the utility. The utility is called "Insydeflasher". So go to UNetbootin - Homepage and Downloads and download Unetbootin.
    2. Take a USB flashdrive, backup all your data on it since we need this flashdrive for dumping the BIOS rom.
    3. Use Unetbootin to make your flashdrive bootable. Select FreeDOS as your distribution. This is a simple, straightforward procedure. More info can be found on the unetbootin page.
    4. Download and extract this file: BIOS.zip
It contains the BIOS backup / flash utility called "BIOS.EXE"
    5. Copy the BIOS.EXE file to the root directory of the flashdrive
    6. Reboot your VAIO with the flashdrive attached. Perhaps you need to set the USB disk as the first device to boot from in the BIOS.
    7. Boot the flashdrive. Hit Option "FreeDOS liveCD only".
    8. After you got the command prompt, navigate to the flashdrive root with this command:
    C:
    then enter:
    BIOS dump.rom /g

This command is used for backing up the BIOS. It reads out the BIOS flash and saves it as "dump.rom" on your flashdrive's root directory. This takes up to 2-3 minutes.
    9. After the process has completed, reboot your laptop to windows, zip or rar the dump.rom file and upload it so Gambl0r can get it.

We will then help him to recover his laptop with your BIOS.

Hi guys what BIOS version you have?
I have original R4090Y1.ROM from Sony

    **********
As I am read you had BRICK laptops now after update of not original BIOS. I am afraid you need NEW MBX due to BIOS chip is already soldered at MBX.

or someone who had skills to unsolder chip rep-programing and get back.

I can repair this for £150. Lets contact me at [email protected]

    Hi urgiv,
I don't know the original nor the current BIOS version because I am not able to start the laptop to get the information.
Don't you think it is possible to boot the laptop with an external USB floppy disk to re-flash the BIOS instead of getting a new motherboard ? or it is just not possible because of the corrupted BIOS.
    Thanks for your help.
