Our family used to have a VAIO (now lost) maybe that cost about 2 grands in maybe 2002. Its keyboard had a very good feel to it, and the keyboard width was not as wide as full sized keyboard which I liked because I didn't have to move my hands so much to type. It was easier to type because the distance between the keys were not distant as it normally is. And its audio quality was the best I've ever heard in my memory when I used external speakers or earphones (not built-in speaker which was tinny). Does anyone know what model number it could be? It was about 13 inch computer I think.

no. lol. sorry. Unless you're going to use it as a DOS machine, I wouldn't wish it on my enemies if they needed it for Windows.

Ok, but I really liked its keyboard. I want the exact same keyboard! How could I get a modern computer with the exact same feeling? People say Lenovo has good keyboard, and I would agree compared to others, but not to be compared with this keyboard. It is a sheer joy to type on it.

Also, I think just using it for browsing there would be no problem. Could this run Windows 7? Also, could i replace the core with something better? (I have a dead 2008 MacBook white)

Also, seeing as it used to be a high-end computer in the past, it was made with a high quality screen I believe (If you try to buy a $400~500 laptop the display color is just dead, from what I remember this computer had good colors).

I dunno... technology moves so fast... I'd bet my life savings (which is pretty safe since I have none) that ANY laptop today will have just as good, if not better panel than that did back then. However, if you want a nice screen, the Vaio Z has a nice one, the Thinkpad X220 has a nice one + a nice keyboard.

If you want a nice keyboard, go mechanical :)

Also, don't think you could replace the CPU... well you could if it's not soldered, but believe us when we tell you that thing will be hella slow no matter what you do with it

In terms of laptop keyboards, the "best" are lenovo's thinkpads with their sunken in U shaped keycaps, or the island format used in pretty much any laptop > $700 nowadays. They won't beat a desktop keyboard, but they're pretty nice. How about go to some electronics store and try out the keyboard. I've never played with that laptop, so I don't know the feeling. Also, keyboard preference is a personal preference that you'll never know until you go hands-on

I actually tried the Lenovo keyboards at a local best buy, but no, they are not as good as the one on this VAIO.

I don't care how great a keyboard is, you're not going to put me on a P3 1ghz machine :D It's not worth it man, don't do it!!

Yes, V505 is a newer model so it has better processor than R505.
You may take a look to VGN-S series.

What kind of things could a V505 handle? How much RAM could you put on it and could you put a Windows 7 on it?
One other reason I want this computer so bad is because it had a wonderful sound. There was an HP laptop in the house and the difference between music quality played from this SONY and from the HP was like night and day.

Is there newer series that descend from this model and has the same high music quality sound card (or better?)

The Pentinum M processor on the V505 would run Windows Vista at best. To run 7, you probably need laptop with a dual core processor (2006 and later).
I had an old Toshiba Tecra M2 (2005) which was on a Pentinum M processor and max was like 2 gig of RAM (DDR1).

Thank you. Is there a way to know the type of sound card (is that what it's called? something that determines the quality of music) that was used in V505 or R505? What are some modern versions of the 505?

You're going about this the wrong way. Go to a computer showroom and try out the models displayed there. You are under no obligation to buy - browse all you like. You can visit various manufacturers' showrooms one by one, or go to a shop which sells several brands, or a mall where you'll find them all within 50 metres of each other. Open Notepad or similar and type out a paragraph or two. Once you find one with a keyboard you like, you can come back here and we'll help narrow your search.

If the sound is very important to you, VAIO might not be the best brand for you. Take a pen drive with a few music mp3s and listen for yourself. I'm hearing good things about the very latest crop of VAIOs, but the sound in mine totally sucks.
