I was trying to install some software on my SZ160 in Vista RC2 and the disc did not auto start. I checked and noticed that my DVD drive (Mat****a UJ-832D) is not listed in my drives. I went into device manager and deleted the drive and when I rebooted the drive tried to reinstall but I received a notice that the driver installation failed.
Does anyone know what the problem can be? I had no problem with Vista RC1 and it works fine in XP.

I love how that brand of drive is ALWAYS censored. Makes forum replies on it very hard to find.

Honestly no, I lost my DVD drive (sony DRU series-Vista didn't even realize it was plugged into the system!) in the Beta and RC1 but it came back fully in RC2. I think it has something to do with the generic drivers for DVD drives being continually tweaked as Vista gets closer to release.

Unfortunately for me I couldn't find a way to get the thing working in the first two releases. There were no prototype drivers to be found, nothing on the microsoft website for me to download.

However now microsoft has a tech page
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320553
that has the fix that helped me in RC2 (the registry one)

If you feel confident in doing so, delete the upper and lower filters and try installing the drive again.

That's odd. Usually most DVD drives are covered in Windows...and there is at least a generic DVD driver. GO back to Win XP until the official release of Vista.

TO MODS - The language filter really needs to be edited (or scrapped). I have seen the above company bleeped out in the middle many times...it's ridiculous...
