I am the proud owner of a new VAIO VPCF22M1E. I bought this because I do video editing and not necesarelly at home...
I run Win7 64bit and have installed only the necessary software (Cyberlink PD9, Photoshop elements 10 and Lightroom3).
It is faster than anything I have used in opening files, running software, rendering etc. ONE problem: The mpeg4 files I produce, can NOT be played back (it stalls, sticks ). The same files are ok played in other - even slower - machines!!!
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Thanos
    (have installed latest NVIDIA drivers)

I recommend Windows 7 Codec Pack... Comes with 32-bit and 64-bit of all necessary codecs and has DXVA enabled by default if support for it is found. A great, easy to install codec pack that will see your MPEG4 movies fly... :)

I thank you both for your input. I installed Win 7 codec pack and had the same result... Then, it came to me!: I have been using VLC as my preset mediaplayer; so, I tried WMP and everything runs smoothly!!! Is it the new codecs? I can't tell since I didn't test it before - and i don't intend to - but my videos are played OK now. (could it be that VLC can't cope well with HD? who knows...)

    Thanks,
    Thanos

I dunno. VLC uses its own built-in-codecs. I use VLC on occasion myself, and have no problems. However, Windows 7 codec pack uses DXVA which means that your graphic card (AMD, NVIDIA, Intel) accellerates the MPEG4 video, offloading your cpu. works great. Dunno why VLC doesn't work, but happy that you've found an alternative...
