    Hi,
I recently got a new FZ180E Vaio Laptop (last friday). It was all great until I found that there were two dark spots on my screens... at first I thought maybe they were dust or dirt, but then later I came to realize that they were dead pixels. Since it was an all together really good laptop, I decided not try to focus on the part that contained the dead pixels.
But this was the begining... two nights ago I was watching a movie in dark that I discovered some light spots on my screen. There were around 3-4.... didn't know if I was mistaken but apparently I didn't. They WERE stuck pixels.
Since they weren't really visible I decided to ignore them as well.
But my problems were just getting worse. I noticed another bright spot today, and that lead me to calling the SONY STORE to exchange the product. The manager agreed to change the product as soon as they ship it to his store... that was no problem and I was happy.
Meanwhile, out of curiousity, I challanged my screen again by rechecking it in dark once again, and I was to be found more worried. I found at least another 11 bright spots... whether these were there since the beginning or they developed later in time I do not know...
What more worries me is that whether the new laptop that the manager is offering me will be having the same problems.
My question is that whether anyone has encountered such problems? Like devolping this huge amount of stuck pixels within the first wekk after the purchase?
The number of defective pixels is now far beyond my ability to count... I can't even count them anymore....
I don't know these are defecting pixels or simply dust... as they are only visible on black screen (laptop turned on)... under no other light color they are visible. My initial dead pixels, however, are black always...
I really want some recommendation regarding whther to return the product or exchange it... I really appreciate it if you could kindly help me!
    With Regards,
    Alitan

It sounds like your laptop just has a defective screen. Exchange it out, there shouldn't be any more drama.

So this is not a common issue with all of them right? Cuz I'm getting the impression that this will be some issue for the next laptop too, god I'm so angry...
    Anyway, Thanks alot!
P.s---. I asked him if he could check it right in the store and he said ok... now I'm kinda worried if this develops over time and in that case the new one may be just as bad as this one after a week, month or a year...

It shouldn't be an issue with your new laptop. I haven't read about too many dead/stuck pixel problems latetly. :)

No, Sony as a company does not have problems with their laptop screens. If all their screens were as bad as the one on your laptop, they wouldn't be in business.

hehe... the problem is not changing the screen only... that way I knew it would be damn good... but he's changing the entire system... whiuch means I have to uninstall that load of crapware off it again... although it's not a big deal...
In a way, it's better to get a new one rather than a repaired...

If they are doing the exchange in person and you are getting EXACTLY the same model, you might ask them to do a hard drive swap between the two machines. It is VERY accessible on the FZ180.

You mean the guy open it up and change the harddrive or that he use the windows easy transfer to do that?
I don't believe he does the manual way...

The manual way, is easy and quick. The drive is accessible behind a small door on the bottom of the machine. It does NOT require any disassembly of the machine to do this. Chat up the person first, make this whole experience as pleasant as you can for the folks at the store. Act as if this is no big deal to you etc. etc. etc. Hell take a plate of brownies with you! Then ask if they would mind doing the drive swap. It will take all of two minutes to do this! Remember how your momma told you about catching more flies with honey than vinegar, nows your chance to put that adage to work.

The alternative is to have them do the easy transfer, but that only takes care of stuff you added, not what you uninstalled.

How much have you changed the system since you got it???

Then start baking those brownies, my friend. When you go in for the machine swap, put on your best pleasant attitude you can muster and go overboard with being nice to them. See if they will do the swap. Explain you have already put a lot of stuff on there and have take off a lot of the "trialware". (Don't use the "bloatware" or "crapware" terms.) You know the drill!

    Good luck!

You won't have another defective screen. Put that out of your mind. Yours is the first such report here. Don't even bring it up. Remember if there is ANY hope of getting them to do the drive swap, you have to go in with a "bright, cheery" attitude. Nothing is wrong, this is just a minor inconveinence for you etc. etc. etc.

I know you are distressed and upset, but suck it up. Don't let it show. Be kind, ask nice and I am willing to bet you walk out with a new machine AND your existing hard drive in place.

The screen on my FZ is bootifle. Once you get it swapped I don't think you'll have problems. ;)
