    Access denied on PM.....

I'm not sure that you have the same issue that I have, previusly I had a thinkpad and my goal was to make my backlit keyboard to work the same way as the thinklight. Press 2 buttons and it's on, press 2 buttons and it's off.

Anyhow, the key question is if the Z21 uses the same or similar register values as the Z12 for the Vaio event services, otherwise I'm wasting your time. My fix for the Z12 is simple. Listen for specific key combination --> Change register values --> restart service to apply settings = light on/off

Andreas - if you're talking about this registry setting (or others in that registry branch), then that's already been tried, and that branch doesn't exist on the Z2.

I still think the best approach is to start with the SA utilities which much more closely match the Z2 than the Z1 does.

At least this made me realize that we have different problems =)

Since I do not have a Z2 series notebook, I wasn't aware of this!

    Good luck

Tiny, perfectly cut piece of tape, matches deck, over light sensor (defy you to notice unless you're looking for it.) Result: keyboard light turns on when you press CTRL or FN or any other non-operational key; turns off at whatever setting you use, including never, but doesn't waste battery by setting it to "off" in daytime. Laugh all you want; it's the "dumb man's" registry hack, but I have total control over my keyboard light. :D

The whole problem is that the Z2 doesn't have a 'never' option.

^ correct. Getting it to turn on isn't a problem. Keeping it on is.
