    Hello,
I see a lot of comparisons being made between the SA and Z series laptops. I am currently deciding between them and am wondering if the SA has the issue of marks being left on the screen from the keyboard as does the Z series and also if this applies to all Z series models or not.
    Thanks

although i have only used my z115 for a couple of months i dont believe i have any keyboard marks on my screen, at least not yet....but that may be because i use both a screen protector AND a keyboard skin for it

The issue does not apply to all Z series computers. My Z13's lid does not touch the keys, and I need to apply a lot of pressure to the lid before it'll touch the keys. However some other members say that their screen touches the keyboard, so it seems to depend on each individual computer.

I can't speak to the SA.

I appreciate the replies. I am looking at a VPC-Z133GX/B in specific. Does anyone have the same one?

I have SEVERE problems with screen marks with my Z13. The SB doesn't suffer from this issue, so it's probably safe to say that the SA doesn't have this issue either.

I don't think it's specific to a particular model of the Z, such as your Z133. It seems to just be the hit or miss with the small variation in production. I'd say just order the computer that you're leaning towards and if it the screen touches, it touches. Just buy a microfiber to stick in between. I sure as heck wouldn't let this be the deciding factor in computer for me.

And like I was saying earlier, just because this one member doesn't have an issue with their SB, it doesn't mean it doesn't affect other people. It's possible that the S series has the same hit or miss quality that the Z possesses.

I already have the microfibre stuck inbetween my Z. My dad's SB is still fairly new at just 2 months old, so it is not exactly the fairest comparison to my half year old Z, but it's a good sample length nonetheless. There's no cloth inbetween the SB either.

I talked to a few Sony reps today and they all said this either wasn't an issue or that it was caused by abrasive oils on the keys from our fingers. If they touch I guess I can always buy a screen protector. Thanks again for all of the input.

I have Z590, one of first batched of VGN-Z series, no issues with screen. However, due to closing/opening lid, I do have some color chipped off from my right mouse button below trackpad.

That's interesting, but it's also something I'd be able to live with. The screen thing would be much more annoying. What do you guys think of the build quality in general?

The chassis of the Z feels a bit better than the SB/SA, and it's likely more rigid as well (doesn't make too much of a difference really, since the SB/SA is already very rigid). However if you're talking about the screen, there's no comparison. The Z's screen is VERY weak, probably one of the weakest in the market.

    Please use proper English.

I'm referring to the screen's endurance, not image quality.

There are no screen marks on my SA from the keyboard. The laptop also comes with a micro fiber cloth which I lay down, but the bezel has rubber ridges (for lack or a better term) to stop the screen from being marred by the keyboard.

Is the palm rest on the Z higher up than the keys? Or are they about even?

They are about even. The plastic edge on the upper screen bezel which touches the front of the palmrest puts some extra space (like 2-3mm) between screen surface and keys.

I see, that's reassuring. I noticed in your signature that your Z has USB 3.0 and esata. Is this built into your Z or from an adapter?
