Well, first of all thanks to all the info thats placed on this site very helpful, but i have been unlucky on this one, I have a s560P lappy and for the last week my dvd/cd rom drive has not been working. It play cd's/dvd or cdroms. I have no idea what it can be. When trouble shooting I receive this
" Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)"
Any ideas, once again thanks :)

First, what's the title of the thread?

Did you try updating the firmware? The S series have so many issues, check the Sony site for the latest updates etc

Could try uninstalling the ide drivers in device manager if you feel comfortable. Panasonic drives are junk. I know the pain of this as ThinkPads use them as well.

The title of the tread is the actually name of the cd drive which I found going thru the control panels, but theres a word in side that name that I guess its unappropiate and so it seems that the webpage automaticly inserted the stars. The first thing I updated was bios new version to control the heating issue with the lap top, (kind of regret it, fan is always on now  ) After that, I did a yahoo anti-spy ware check, notice that I had trojan called XCP.SonyRootkit., did some research that lead me to Microsoft.com. download the lastest updates for my lappy including AntiSpyware (Beta) that removes the rootkit and ever since have not had a fuctional cd drive. :(

Can you see your drive in your hardware configuration? Does it say drivers and device are working properly?

Windows should find it again when it reboots and re-install the driver.

Tell me if this is exactly your problem:

You plug in a CD / DVD and it doesnt run at all, the computer doesnt read it or play anything in it. You tried to uninstall the drivers through Control Panel>System>Device Manager and rebooted to let Windows reinstall the drivers itself, with no luck?

If thats exactly your problem then I have had it before...and if it is, let me know.

I insert a CD/DVD in the drive, drive spins CD/DVD (lens moves around, I can hear it) and my windows media does not read it, I click on the quick access panel and where it would say the name of the CD or DVD it says "None". And no, I havent tried to reinstall it. Thank for the help
