Hi all, I noticed that a firmware update for the Mat****a UJ-832 DVD Writer Optical Drive has been recently posted on Sony eSupport. Now, I have a Mat****a UJ-832D (the D may stand for double layer, but Im not sure, anyway I have a double layer drive), do you think the UJ-832 (D-less) firmware update is going to be compatible with my drive? I dont have any issues with the drive so far, but I think keeping everything updated is the best choice, do you suggest me to revise the firmware or not? Has somebody tried this update yet?
THANKS

I've downloaded and installed the update. Haven't really noticed any major changes but I have to admit I don't really frequently burn DVD's. I have the 832D version which is probably installed on all Vaio S5 series notebooks.

Thanks for your reply! I have another question: do you know how to make this DVD drive region free? I installed DVD Region Free on my Dell desktop PC, but it doesn't work with the mat****a drive.

DON'T DO IT!!!! I have a VGN-S4XP with a UJ-832D drive. I updated the firmware now some of the Sony software does work (Click to DVD & Recovery Utility). I've tried EVERYWHERE to try and 'downgrade' the firmware but i'm having no joy!!!

I can't find the link for download .Can you show me th link. Thanks -
It's absolutely impossible to make this drive region-free. As in- not a freakin chance. No firmware (no one of the guys wants to make one), no software - I tried DVD43, DVD Region+CSS free, DVD Ghost...all of it.
Which is mildly said - frustrating. I have around 50 R1 movies and I can't play them. Stupid manufacturers blindly following idiotic holywood rules.
