Hi to all ... am new to Sony. May I ask which Sony model apart from the X11 Netbook has a matte screen, as in anti-glare screen. Also I need to be able to see what's on the screen so for 13 inch a basic resolution. Am I right in assuming there is a Vaio Z series with a matte screen? I am very sensitive to glossy and some LED screens.. I hope Sony's LED is a good one.

The Zs are all anti-glare, but none of them are matte.

the glossy anti glare coating minimize the glare found on common glossy screen. and it makes the glass look on glossy screen looks like matte.

The Y-series also has the anti-glare screen.

If you want to know what they look like go to a Best Buy and play with some of the Sony VAIOs there.

The old Z screen is more matte than glossy to me. The old series was made with 1366x768 or 1600x900 resolution. The new Z is a bit glossier and made with 1600x900 and fullHD screen.

My work T61 would cause my eyes to strain very quickly with the 15.4" 1680x1050 matte screen and my Vaio Z with the anti-glare 13.1" 1600x900 screen has yet to do so. Colours are more vivid, blacks are deeper and the screen is brighter without sacrificing usability. It is simply more enjoyable to work on.

Cosmok I have a Lenovo T400 LED that really hurts my eyes so I do need a better screen.... can anyone tell me what model number the old Z series are? Still for sale ? I don't need the latest and the greatest, just a good overall light machine, and 1366 x 768 is probably enough. I hope to find a store where I can check it out.

    No more matte screens, please!

Non-matte screens, PERHAPS with a LITTLE TINY BIT of careful anti-glare coating, is what I personally prefer after many years of experience.

I think our views on this issue boil down to personal preferences.

I am much more concerned about rumors that say that Sony now makes uses of screens made in China, for traditionally (and newly) and generally the earlier "home made" Sony screens are soooo much better.

BTW I think some peoples massive resistance against a "glare" screen is VERY exaggregated and does not match with MY perfectionism. Neither do I experience that the "reflection problems" with glare screens are serious or vital. I am much more troubled by a rather dull matte screen all the time, because the screen is - right - matte.

what i can share my experience with so called sony display, they actually have better color and contrast even they are using anti-glare coating than the other notebook brand's lcd. my friends always praise my sony screen on color and brightness. and i never get my eyes strain on sony screen unless i turn the brightness high to the max lol. i usually set the brightness around 40% to 60% max.

The old one starts VGN-Z, while the new one is VPC-Z. And they should be still sold in a shops, not through Sonystyle though.
