I get about 2.5 hours on a full charge right now on the SR( i have the standard battery)... i turned off the CD power option to save battery but are there any other things i can do to maximize the battery life? I read that the SR can get about 3.5 hours... anyone know what i can do to increase to 3.5 hours?

also, whats the best way to remove bloatware, by just uninstalling the programs included? i have too many processes running in the background-- how do i clean it up? thanks

i get around 3.5 hours from standard battery with:

VAIO Ultimate battery setting. W/ cd drive disabled
    Doing word processing/reading documents
Listening to music constantly using headphones
    NO WIFI

if you arent connected to the internet, disable any programs (i.e. anti virus) that scans things in the background. i always disable those because its scanning for no reason, probably wasting some battery.

Your antivirus won't really scan anything except "new stuff" after it checked your computer once.
So it shouldn't affect your battery life.
    (At least mine doesn't: Kaspersky)

And just wondering, if you go to the maximum battery life on an SZ, it disables Audio, so did you change the settings??

Another aspect to consider is screen brightness.
The screen lighting uses a lot of energy.

Like Detlev says screen brightness is a biggie.

    Undervolting also extends battery life.

Unneccesary background processes also take battery life.

I have a question: is there any way to really disable bluetooth? Every time I start my computer I see the icon, despite unchecking the "show icon" option in the bluetooth menu and disabling it in MSCONFIG's Startup tab. As far as I can tell, there's no "turn blueooth OFF" option in the bluetooth menu, but I've done everything I can think of without totally uninstalling the drivers and everything.

Open the laptop, destroy the device :D Of course not!!!!

I could think of trying to disable/deactivate it in the BIOS or at least in the device manager.

Sony used to have a software that's called wireless switcher that allows you to turn off wireless or BT, at least up to my FZ ordered in April this year. Not sure if it's in the new models.

You can disable most hardware in your device manager.

The program that controls the wireless and bluetooth on the SR is "SmartWi Connection Utility"
