My understanding is that SZ has a optional docking station that support DVI. Will SZ be able to support 24" Dell monitor through DVI without any problem?

I'm also thinking about purchasing the optional docking station but couldn't find this answer anywhere in the docking station specs... I'd love an answer to this question as well.

What is the maximum resolution supported by the SZ docking station DVI port?

I have the docking station, and with my 19" widescreen, the Nvidia card will give me a resolution of 1920 x 1080.

Thanks but I wonder how Dell's 24" extra wide screen would fare through the DVI. I think the Dell is more wider than the SZ's native screen.

You're correct... for the Dell 2407WFP it states the following resolution requirement:

To optimize this monitor's performance, your system must be able to support WUXGA resolution (1920x1200).

I would definitely call Sony and ask what the supported max resolution is before purchasing. I think you're probably okay, it is typically once above 1920x1200 that dual dvi video cards are needed to drive the high resolutions.

We use our SZ-260P with the Sony docking station and the Dell 24" LCD (1920 x 1200) all the time. This was an important point for us - that the SZ be able to support the Dell 24". The monitor works with either the DVI or VGA outputs. In principle, the DVI gives a better display than the VGA, but really it is hard to tell the difference. Maybe it would make more difference with a game that requires 3D graphics. The undocked VGA mode drives the Dell 24" also. Before we bought the SZ, we found a manual on the the Sony support site that shows all the resolutions supported by the graphics card.

Great. I was wondering whether to purchase Dell from Costco. They have a great return policy by the way.

Do you feel any graphic performance suffering driving such a big monitor from SZ?

Max resolution is 2048 x 1536 for regular monitor cable and 1920 x 1200 for DVI. At least that what has been said by Dynamism which is selling the Japanese model that has identical video card. http://www.dynamism.com/sz93/specs.shtml Note that they don't say whether the color depth is 16 bit or 32 bit.

    It should be 32 bit.
