    :sony: :glossy: Hi,
I just purchased a sony s580 with the following specs:
    120GB
    512MB
    Wireless A/b/g + bluetooth
    NVidia 6400
    Windows Professional

I was wondering what type of memory the s580 uses and where I can buy it cheap. (Less than 100$). Before deciding to purchase the s-series I had an FS series that only had a 1 hour battery life and had a screen that buzzed. ( I returned it to sony) I have purchased the s-series because of its portabiltity and screen. (and sexy design)

My s-series hopefully will arrive by 12/24 and will not have a:
    :noisyfan: or :eek:verheat:

i'm looking at this one too

13.3" widescreen, GF 6400, small light powerful and stylish. THat's just what i'm looking for. (and i'll get a free PS2 after using the sony points I earned from buying this little monster)

the only con would be that it doesn't have S-video port and some ppl say that the battery seems to be loosing and need some tape to attach it. (OMG if that's true)

I'm wondering if I can buy a 533mhz memory and install it in this guy? because the spec page in sony website said that it's got DDR2 400 mhz. but usually PM 7X0 models can use DDR2 533 Mhz..... so I'm confused. if we can use 533 mhz memory that would be great.

    any answers?

Go to newegg.com and look for:

    Transcend 1 GB DDR-2 4200 so-dimm

    Model #: TS533N2-1024
    Item #: N82E16820208312

I have 2 of these on my S560 and it works very well.

www.crucial.com -they have a memory selector on their site (easy to use) and I just bought a 2 GB kit from them for $211 USD (counting shipping).

I bought Transcend SO-DIMMs from Newegg as well. $180 counting tax and shipping and before two $10 rebates (of which perhaps only one will qualify). They're working fine in my S580.

I'm also thinking about buying some new memory, but I rather not put the new memory in the slot under the keyboard because I don't want to break anything :). So my question is, can I buy some 533mhz memory to put in the other slot under the keyboard and will my new memory work good with the standard sony 400mhz memory?

    thanks!

S580 comes with DDR2 533 MHz memory standard so you will have no problem. Please refer to the discussion:

The battery will not fall out without tape. It's just that some of them rattle (when you shake the laptop or poke the battery) a little so people fear they have a lemon. It's actually normal, but you can reduce the rattle with some padding between the battery and the case. ;)

According to Kingston memory the 533 MHz memory will work fine with the 400 MHz memory. It will just slow down to the 400 MHz speed.

All computers are this way...if you put a 400Mhz stick in with a 533Mhz the computer will run it at the lowest speed in the computer.
