    Memory Upgrade for AW21S/B help needed

    Hi there,

    I have a AW21S/B Laptop I want to upgrade it by upping the mem from 4GB to 8GB, now the official specs say that 4GB is the max but on the Intel site the motherboard specs say that its max is 8GB any one done this or it it a no go!

    Sony doesn't seem generous in letting us know what chipset the AW series uses though I'm pretty sure it will be the PM45. If so then 8GB is certainly possible in the PC2-6400 DDR2 variety.

    Download CPU-Z and check what it says under the Mainboard tab under 'Chipset'? PM45 right?

    Whatever it turns out to be follow this logic and once you know what chipset use the below link to find out the maximum capacity and type of memory you need.

    If it's indeed the PM45 then as it supports DDR2 and DDR3 but not together and laptop manufacturers chose their path according to their own design principles. The below Sony website for your model states DDR2 so do not buy DDR3 hoping it will work, because it won't even fit the memory slots let alone function in a DDR2 laptop.
