    DDR3 PC3-8500 or DDR3 PC3-10600 modules? Two 4 GB modules or a matching pair 8 GB kit? Your thoughts are welcome.

    DDR3 PC3-10600 modules will work at PC3-8500 speeds just fine. That's the way to go if you don't mind price difference and want a "future-proof" RAM (i.e. you'll be able to pull it out later and plug into newer laptop).

    That depends on how long you keep your laptop. If you keep it for more than two years, the replacement is almost certainly not going to use something as antiquated as DDR3 PC10600.
