I have the rather unusual habit of placing the menu bar to the left hand side of the desktop. I think it´s mostly easier to move the mouse to the left than down, cause my hand gets in the way if I want to move it downwards and I need to move the whole arm. It´s basically for laziness/ergonomic reasons.

I also make the bar ~4x wider to see texts better and set it to auto hide so I can use the whole desktop when it´s not needed.

Anyway, this backfires when I change gfx modes, usually when I leave my AC adapter for meetings. When the screen comes back to life after the change, the menu bar is still at the left, but it has shrunk to its original width and I have to manually widen it again.

I would guess it´s a Sony issue, as opposed to Windows 7, but I´m not sure.

Anyone else seen it? Any remedy?

I changed my settings as you described above. To speed up things I selected switch off display after 1 minute. After I woke up the display in SPEED mode everything appears as before. Same in STAMINA mode. No diffrence in either balanced or energy savings mode. By the way I prefer the Aero-Skin which may force the comuter to react diffrent.

Dynamic Hybrid Graphics and energy savings options still seem mysterious and unexplaind to me.

My system suffers from enexpected blackscreens under low or medium load. I have meanwhile come to the assumption, that it is not a good idea to leave the energy and performance decisions to the "Autopilot". In my case I belive it crasches the computer.

Just don't allow the system and devices to take a nap and things should be fine.

    Hi, thanks for trying it.

I can trigger the problem with:

    Change to STAMINA.
Make sure the menu bar is wider than default.
    Also make sure it's hidden.
    Change to SPEED.

It's now narrow, happens every time.

Correct! Mine does that too, if "hide menu bar" is checked. If you don't like it narrow, you should foreget about the "hidden" option.
