Apologies If I have already posted this, it seems not to have appeared in 30 mins +.

Have a VGN-A195EP with C drive 30gb, abd D drive 30GB, as usual C is full of junk, and D is empty and useless. The lappy is ok, and I hate waste, I'm sure with a bit more breathing room on the C drive I'll get a little more life out of it.

Anyone tell me a quick way of merging C and D without doing a format and re-install?

Sorry if it's a dumb question but I did look - honest!

Sony won't talk to me because although I registered the laptop from new, I never used their forum thingy, and when I try to identify myself using the ser nos I don't exist (according to them) and I am NOT about to dial an 0900 number for anyone.

    Thanks in advance McP

    Re: Go to control panel

    Disc management

Any advice on how to do this, I have a C drive Primary partition, and a D drive extended partition. I want to asimilate (borg) the D into the C drive.

Can I do this through windows, if so how? (The help is not very helpful)
Never tried this without third party s/ware (which I don't have at t6he moment)

If I don't have third party software, can anyone point me towards how to do this in XP, I have tried help but it doesn't.

I have C primary, D extended, I want to merge D to C, can this be done through XP?

No, it is not doable without third party tools. XP comes with a "diskpart" tool that lets you extend disks onto unallocated space, but it does not work for the system volume (C: in most cases).

My recommendation: Boot a Linux DVD, and use gparted to extend the partition.
