    wow, that's pretty sweet.
will you be running any other benchmarks?

Edit: Sorry, should have been more specific. Can you give us your system specs and any results if you happen to run BatteryMark, SysMark, MobileMark, etc.

No, it's not out yet, but there a chips floating around (that probably shouldn't be). Not all notebooks need an updated BIOS for it to work.

for T2600 it takes about 1m 8s to finish pi 2m ,i havnt download 3dmark 05 yet but in 3d mark 03 my point increased from 4600 to 4700 ,cpu score 990 to 1190 sisoft sandra also impressed me.but i feel strange about battery life it seem my t7200 cant run in speedstep it drained battery quickly, and in full load it run very hot may be i applied as5 badly or something

what was the cpu you had before? Was it a 2.1Ghz? I'm trying to find out if its worth upgrading from my 1.8. I scored 4189 with 3dmark03. while you got 4600. 500 is a good jump higher than mine.

What are the specs of your other hardware: amount/speed of your ram and hard disk speed? Also what is the temperature on idle and full load?

It looks like Speedstep is working for the Merom CPU when in the SZ unit. The reason I say this is because if you look at your screenshot posted with your original post, you'll notice that on CPU-Z that the CPU Core Speed is show as being 1000.1 MHz with a multiplier of x6.0. This means that the speedstep is capable of working since it is underclocked.

That being the case, wonder why its hot and you're battery life so short as you seem to believe.

Have you tried using a 3rd party power management program to try and improve battery life?

I'll be interested to see if with the merom processor you can get a better battery life, it's supposed to use less power.

Perhaps the issue of battery life comes from a not fully compliant BIOS?

now i can run my sz with speedstep , problem is sony utility cant handle merom to work in speedstep so i tried NHC and it worked but not good as my old yonah t2600. i get about 5.10 - 5.30 with large battery while my t2600 get about 6.30 with same setting ( brightness 4 , wireless on,bt off, cpu dynamic ) but now i feel that NHc has so many BUGS

    my spec is
    vgn-sz91 premiumcarbon
cpu t7200 es rev B0 ( old one is T2600es QKHK)
    ram infineon 512X2
    HDD seagate 5400 rpm 80 g
    geforce 7400 @ 510/760
    bt , felica, webcam
    large battery

Thanks for the little experiment! :) You might just letting Windows take care of the power management. It won't allow you to mod the voltages, but it isn't as buggy as NHC can be. You might also want to try RMclock. It is similar to NHC but a little more complex to figure out.

today i tried merom with anoroother sz ( common version) it worked without any update too ... my sz bios is R0081N0 (premiumcarbon) , for common version i dont remember exactly but it was not R0081N0 , one issue i cant fix is fullload temp was going high ( about 92 ) while my yonah go only 65 ( room temp 20) i tried repeating applied as5(used arcticclean ) several time but it not make any sense may be i have to wait 200hrs to see max efficiency?

Wow 92 degree, thats rather hot, I believe the shutdown temperature is about 100?

Wonder if other people have similar type heat problems on laptops with the Merom or it runs much cooler. I know some have tried it with Dell laptops and had it run successfully. Also since its an Engineering Sample the final prudction version may differ a little.

Your report that its running "very hot" tells me you'd better stop while you still have a laptop. The SZ runs VERY cool, and if yours is getting "very hot", you're flirting with a fried board, chip, etc. If you've got extra $$$ to play with, then more power to ya... :) But for the rest of the world, we like to keep our $2700 investments.

now i think i know reason why merom run hotter than my merom ,today i used mobilemeter to measure howe many watts my computer consume when it run in Fulload ( prime 95 , staminamode, cpu max brightness 4,wireless on)
merom consumes 53 watts while yonah T2600 40 watts ,yonah T2500 36.5 watts so may be its reason ,but i have some question ,why in full load my friend sz-91 T2500 (no es 754xxxx temp 66c) rev c0 is run cooler than me (t2600 es rev c0 753xxxx temp 75c) about 9 celcius ? both are apllied as5 by me (i think my friend unit are poorly applied than me) it really make me sick

Well, it is possible that this is the result of running it without a proper BIOS update. Maybe Merom requires lower voltage, and without a BIOS update, it applies the same voltage as Yonah? Just a guess...

it seem EM64T working on my ,merom base sz ,now i intsalling window vista x64 beta 2,it seem to be fine . now problem with merom is full load temp is too high while idle is pretty cool (45 c) and batterey shorter than yanah a bit ( about 30 mins per 1 cycle large batterry)

Those high temps shouldn't be that much of a surprise for an early generation Merom processor. From memory I remember reading somewhere that the first Merom samples were having problems meeting thermal envelopes. This would seem to reinforce that claim.

All the same I think it's fantastic that SZ owners will have the ability to upgrade their processor to a Merom, maybe in 6-7 months time when they come down in price and may be a justifiable cost (along with some faster timing DDR2 667mhz ram).

    ostack,
Not likely. Usual BIOS process is to read the high and low frequency/voltage pairs from a MSR register and then create ACPI P-States on an interpolated line between the high and low. As long as Merom supports the same MSR register interface it should just work.

Pentium-M and Yonah certainly share the same MSR interface, and it would appear from the postings here that Merom does as well.

hey geng789 what speed of ram are you using? I have 2gb x DDR2 533mhz and plan on upgrading to the t7200 when it comes out in July, will I have to get different speed ram as well?
