Yesterday I was going to restore my computer back a few hours, because the wifi stopped working. 5 seconds after I started the restore, it started working, soo I forced it to close through task manager. Not bad happened, so I carried on as usual. I went to install a bluetooth driver, and all of a sudden, the desktop was completely clear of everything, and the C: drive was nearly empty, save a few files. I restarted, and it loaded into start up repair. It was getting pretty late, so I left it on for the night, hoping it would be fixed in the morning.

It was not. I figured that it was the MBR so I tried a Partition Wizard bootable CD. I could open it, but the mouse didn't work in it, so I made a Windows 7 64 bit repair disc. This couldn't load at all, so I searched vainly for a few hours for a solution, before I finally decided to restore.

Right now, I'm running system restore (in Vaio care rescue). I lost most of my files, and the rescue data option didn't get any of my music or documents (they must have been corrupted). It got stuck a few times, and now it is at 55% installing drivers and such. I'm going out for 3 hours; hopefully it works by then.

Let this be a lesson to all of you, never stop system restore.

Knowing Microsoft, System Restore probably spawns several working threads, and you probably missed some. Or you just killed the GUI.

    Thanks for the warning.

You were restoring your system (without backing up!) because Wi-Fi stopped working? What were you thinking??

Did you check your router/modem/connection? Could other devices connect during this ‘down time’ before taking such unnecessary drastic action?

I think the real lesson here is that you didn’t know what they hell you were doing and should have checked the basics before cocking your machine up.
