My first round of Windows updates seems to have installed Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Why would I need this? I figured it would be safe to remove, but it appears to be tied to some of the VAIO software.

Anyone know what this is all about?

What is the VAIO Entertainment Database (VAIO_VEDB)?

See my thread about a clean install of Vista. Basically it is used by Vaio Entertainment platform. The platform in turn is used by Vaio Media, an app that allows you to share your media files over a network. The platform uses SQL server to catalog your media files. If you don't need Vaio Media, you don't need the Vaio entertainment platform. If you uninstall the platform it will uninstall SQL server (it is actually SQL Server Express and is a NAMED INSTANCE of SQL server).

    Thanks a lot. :)

I went ahead and uninstalled it all. I did a semi-clean install, but it was perfect for my needs. Anyway, thanks for the help, rep added.
