On my fz180 a popup just asked me to install the sp1 from microsoft![]()
-
hip-hip-hooray for Microsoft!
-
Is that real? Have you install it? How does it feel now? Is it faster? Snappier?
-
SWEEEEEEEET!!!!!
I cannot wait to hear about all the problems fixed...maybe I'll try it out.
EDIT: Are you sure this isn't the Release Candidate?

Umm I just checked through windows update, nothing about service pack 1.
-
maybe MS is being careful... getting the general public reaction towards it
-
none here on the 64x end
-
service pack beta already was great improve for me!
-
-
I'll be looking for it in Windows Updates!
-
Me neither. No mention of Service Pack from Windows Update.
-
This is just a good joke. Vista SP1 will be out in feb/march.
-
That's just the latest refresh. Rumor has it it'll be out this monday, though...
-
According to Channel Web Network, SP1 is being released to manufacturing this Monday:

-
There was a recent Microsoft OFFICE SP1 - could that be what you downloaded?
-
That's what I'm guessing too. As I just got this MS Office SP1 update 2 days back as well.
Rumors has it that it would be released officially on the 4th of April. -
I got a prompt for Office 07 Service Pack 1 Update, but not windows.
-
Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008 were released to manufacturing today:

Fuzzy man, you're way too active with that post. Cut & paste rulz!
Microsoft said that SP1 has reached the RTM stage, but that it will not be available through WU until mid march. -
mid march?!??! What !???! guess I'll be using sp1 RC for a while longer
-
Hurray! Vista SP1 released to manufacturing today. It will be available through windows update in mid march.
-
Why would it take over a month for them to make it available on WU if the final version is ready to be release to OEMs?
-
Yeah, good question.
-
RTM = burning disks and ****...
Anyway, Windows Server 2008 has also been released to manufacturing and I'm gonna get it a few hours. Where's the fun in waiting a month or so? -
i'm more inclined to believe that a piece of malware popped up saying it's vista sp1.
-
Hmm...no. SP1 just went RTM. And I have the RTM for WS08.
-
anyone got a leaked download of the new RTM?
-
Hi guys.
I have to say a big sorry to all of you!
I got a message from Windows update
for a sp1 and was sure it was vista sp1.
But this is what it was:
I wonder how i didn't pay attention.!
Anyway sorry for this.
But I wait for the sp1 with lot of impatience as the beta I installed
already fixed few important issues I was having and after the install
my laptop now works with no problems. Startup has been dramatically
improved and os is very stable now -
-
cool man, so its finally here
Gonna get this now -

Bootleg, bootleg, bootleg. Do you REALLY want to trust that this is not riddled with spyware, or worse a rootkit? Wait for the real McCoy.
Gary -
Is this the same build as the final SP1?
-
TT -
I've installed it too, I'm fine with it, no noticeable difference tought...

But here is an article fron Winbeta for you to be sure of the genuiness of this SP :
Mary Jo Foley: Surprise! If you were among the 15,000 chosen testers who got the Vista Service Pack (SP) 1 Release Candidate (RC) 1 Refresh 2 test build in late January, you already have the final SP1 bits.
Microsoft changed the version number on the code, but the bits are exactly the same, company officials acknowledged on February 7.
I asked Microsoft last week whether the Refresh 2 build was the release to manufacturing (RTM) build and company officials said, point-blank, it was not. So why admit it now?
We couldnt say anything prior because before the RC is approved for RTM (Monday morning, February 4), there is always the possibility the code will get changed, a company spokeswoman said.

Read my post and stop beeing so worried!
OK some files are "infected" but if you use some common sense then it should be OK, at least for me it has always been!! -

I read you post and no, I won't. Not as long as there are folks suggesting that it is perfectly safe to download this SP from ANYPLACE other than a Microsoft server. There is absolutely no way to know if it is perfectly safe or not.
This whole notion that you just need to use "common sense" has no common sense, especially in light of the fact that RIGHT NOW, this very minute any one can get this SP from a Microsoft Server if they are willing and able to make a twek to their registry.

If you trust ZDNet, if you don't... You are really paranoid!
For anyone interested, Adrian Kingsley-Hughes at ZDNet posted the MD5s for the official 32-bit and 64-bit update executables for Windows Vista SP1 RTM.
-32-bit (434MB ): d597866e93bc8f80ecca234c4e9ce5a2
-64-bit (726MB ): 983308426e8ee7649f53b41f4e5c42d4
As a quick reminder, Vista SP1 RTM = Vista SP1 RC Refresh 2.

And now here is a screenshot of the MD5 ckecksum I just made, just for you!Attached Files:

Now we DO have a way to know if the other places have a legitimate unmodified copy of the SP. That was my whole point all along. Now, armed with this info folks can SAFELY download the SP be certain they are getting what they want.
Thank you for digging that out. And please when you get an opportunity, post a link to your message in other threads where you see folks suggesting alternate places to download the SP. (You might want to add a note on how to get the MD5 Checksum for the files they download, so they can compare.)
Well done! Rep for you...

That said, no-one's telling you to download it. You've just been tipped off that it's there. What you do with your system is your business. Me, I like to keep mine up to date.
But like I said, caveat emptor, this ain't an official release.

And now that karimnacer has posted the checksums for us, it is easy to see if you have the real thing or not. The risk has now been substantially mitigated.
