I have a new SB series Vaio with a built-in Qualcomm modem enabling me to access mobile broadband but I can't find any suppliers in the UK who will supply a SIM card (ideally PAYG) to enable me to use this facility without insisting I use their modem/dongle.

Any suggestions on where to look please.

If the modem isn't too expensive may be you can just buy the package and
just take the sim out of the modem and then just use that and find the settings online.
I'm with BT and did exactly that, although i didn't pay for the modem it was included in my broadband contract.

Before that and even more recently i've also purchased my 3G sim cards from ebay. I just purchased a T-Mobile sim card a few weeks ago. I've alaso done the same with 3 and T Mobiles cards in the past.
Although, my last T Mobile card seemed to expire after a couple of years but my 3 cards are still fine.

If it is anything like it is in the states they they won't want to supply you with a SIM but they will likely do it anyway. I posted an article on my website about my recent experience with AT&T. I took it one step further. Not only did I want to get a SIM only, but I also wanted to get a service that is offered only for their MiFi package since it is the lowest monthly rate and overall the best deal per GB of data.

I think it is just a matter of being persistent. I can get what I want from just about any company if I become a big enough nuisance.

You can get any PAYG sim that supports internet access (3G) and slot it in. I'm using a Vodaphone sim, (light usage) and a £20 top up usually lasts 2 months. (Emails, surfing texting etc) Don't get a sim that is for Broadband access only as if you don't use it you lose it.

Here's the details you're going to ask me for.

Three UK offer SIM-only deals (contract or PAYG) that don't require a dongle and will work perfectly in your Z.

I wish we had good pay as you go deals in the states. My AT&T plan is $35 a month for 3GB. It is $10 per GB after that. It is not too bad but I pay whether I use it or not. AT&T pay as you go is $50 for one GB.
