    Problem with this model:

    1. Screen comes on with colored lines and black and white splotches
    2. Attached external monitor and it shows no signal.
    3. Used Fn key an F7 key, it did not transfer to external.

This is for a student who has very limitedfunds.

Looking for service diagrams to disassemble and check hardware.

    Look forward to some help.

Sony does not seem to be very supportive without pushing the fee first.

I think I have run out of fuel for my crystal ball... would you mind supplying either fuel or funds to fire it back up?

(Thanks to the members who made me think of that through their own version)

Ok, jokes aside, if you join a forum to get help, then be helpful from your side too, offer basic information, don't ask us to look for it.
What are your specs? There are a couple of graphics cards you can have, different motherboards, processes, etc.

    Then there are drivers, OSes...

So, amend your first post or add another one.
What are your specs, what is your OS; drivers?

Then we may be able to help.

At a guess - I'd say faulty graphics card - if it is you need to replace the motherboard and this is costly - this is assuming also that you have an NVidia GPU.

    Hi,

Apologize for making a bo-bo as I am new to forums.

Sony VGN-CR190 is a laptop with which Sony provides no help.

It is as it came from Sony.

    OS: Microsoft Windows Vista.

Graphic Card: Sony will not answer anything, it could be a card on the motherboard or integrated.

All the correct drivers are installed.

I have tried every place to acquire from Sony the details of the internal components, NO HELP.

    Hoping for more experienced help.

    John

Ah well - not much better, but a touch.
    Then let me help you.

CPU, RAM, HDD are not important.

    Your GPU is.

Download GPU-Z to determine what graphics card you have.

    Its either integrated or dedicated...

Then please report back with your results.

And while you are at it, please record the siver version as well.

GPU-Z will give you these details.

I know I am new to this forum but my opening states that the screen is unreadable, no external monitor so I do not know how to download the GPU-Z to check the video interface.

The laptop when it boots up will not give you the opening Microsoft Screen therefore, I can not work with a download.

Are there any disassembly documents and I will take it apart and check motherboard, etc.

    Ok...
    Let me do some digging.

    Disassembly guides will not help.

Sorry about GPU-Z - it doens't quite state that its 100% unreadable, let me dig a bit...

    Edit:
    Did a bit of digging...

    Sony support site:
(As you have access to a computer)
    http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=VGNCR190

Its the Intel X3100 - its not know to be faulty, so that shouldn't be the cause.

The Sony site is not any help.

On a chance that the memory module which is shared between the integrated video and system memory was possible bad, I installed a new module and all the splotched screen and colored dashed lines still appear and the external monitor does not work.

I believe at this point, it would be best to replace the motherboard.

Does anyone have a disassemble document for this Sony Vaio VGN-CR190. The Sony site is not very clear how to accomplish the proceedure.
