Yes it will. PC2-5300 memory works in PC2-4200 laptops just as PC2-4200 memory's works in PC2-3200 laptops.

Wow that was a lot of PC2's ;)

sorry to derail, but is it possible to downgrade to XP on this Laptop? It's a 299 doorbuster this friday and only this question is keeping me from lining up. Also would this be fast enough for light photoshop, light video editing? thanks.

Well Sony is currently offering downgrade disks for the TZ, and SZ models. I don't know if they have any plans to offer for NR, but I don't see why not.

I bought 2 of these laptops. They are great but 1 gig of ram just isn't going to cut it. I upgraded to 2 gigs and the machine is now very impressive.
The memory is hard to find since it is a specially made laptop for black friday.
The machine will take 5300, but run at 4800 speeds. 5300 is just the max speed rating of the ram.
I just went on ebay and typed VGN-NR110E/S memory upgrade and found someone selling 2 gigs for $99.

Sorry, you can use any memory that fits the spec, there is so such thing as special memory for BF.
    Newegg and Fry's.
Less than $60 for 2GB and you get warranty with good CS.

First of all, that computer ws sold on Amazon a while back for $800 and there is nothing Special other than Black friday pricing.
Second, who told you it had special BF memory, Best Buy.

    Um, no.

I have two friends who bought these laptops on BF, they both upgraded using the PNY memory on sale at Best Buy for $55, it worked just fine.

I did see a site that said some Best Buys were taking advantage of newbies to computers and charging people mad money to 'optimize' their new laptops, (i.e. removing bloatware), so it wouldn't surprise me if they were also telling people they needed 'special' memory for these laptops.

I didn't have a lot of respect for Geek Squad in the first place, but after reading about the rediculous fees they were charging people, I now hate them.
