    Modifyin vaio model number

    hi there,

    i have a vaio companion dvd for Z690. however my laptop model is Z590.When I try to use the dvd it says it wasn't suitable for my notebook model. how can i modify my model number so that i can use that dvd with my notebook? are there any ways to do that???

    I personally would suggest that you go to the Sony website & download all the necessary Windows 7 drivers (if you're using 64-bit) for the Vaio Z890 notebook. I'll also recommend using the UniveralExtractor software for those drivers to break the model check process, if needed. IMHO, that is probably the best way to get the newest available drivers from Sony for your Windows 7 installation. Good luck. :)

    I am following the Z690 series as you suggested, since it was the closest model officially supported. However, I would like to use that dvd to speed up the installation process. Anyway, I guess I won't be able to use that DVD. so if there is anyone needs it i can send it to him/her :))

    There is simple procedure - you change the model number file with editor and make it read only, after installing you can change it. Use search to find step by step procedure, it is somewhere on this forum.
    I remember doing it while installing XP on my Vista FZ21S for which there was no official support (the drivers were from Asian Sony support-same hardware but different model numbers), so it surely works but the suggestions from other posters are probably faster to apply and more practical in long run.
