Here is a link to the item for sale on eBay:

Does anyone know if it is possible to just simply buy RAM, a hard drive or processor (just like you can for the Asus W3V and other laptops) and fit it yourself? I want a laptop that I can upgrade in the future, adding a bigger hard drive, etc, or more RAM (since it says 2GB RAM is the max)?

I'm intrested in the Asus W3V but am not intrested in it's 2.45kg weight, this Sony is only 1.94kg WITH the battery! It's great for lightweight-ness.

    Can anyone help?

The memory and hard drive are definetly upgradeable. I'd do those first as you'll get the biggest increase in perfromance there. The CPU is probably doable, but not advisable because you'll void the warranty and the perfromance increase is marginal. I'd be wary of that seller, their feedback score is low and they haven't sold anything on ebay. If you are looking for a good thin and light laptop, I'd look at the Fujitsu S series. Good Luck.

So you're saying it's just a case of taking off the things on the back and changing it? Is it as easy as upgrading other laptops?

    Thanks for your response

The hard drive and memory are usually easy to upgrade. There are always exceptions of course. Sometimes the second memory slot is located under the keyboard and is harder to access. Not super familiar with this model. Upgrading the CPU will probably reqiure dimantling the laptop which is why it voids the warranty.

But I could always get my local PC repair shop to fit the parts anyway.
Do you know of any guides anywhere that tells you about upgrading this VGN S5XP? Like what you'd have to remove, etc.

I could be wrong but I thought I read somewhere the Sony s series hard drive is extremely difficult to change. Can anyone verify this?
