I'm not an expert at the Montevina platform coming up in the mid of 2008. I was expecting the TZ2xx to have major improvements, so I will have to wait for the next generation of the Sony TZ (if Sony will put the Montevina).
My question is: Is it going to be a performance boost from the Napa to the Montevina platform?

Yes. 45nm is cooler while giving more performance, plus the platform allows notebooks to be up to 25% percent slimmer. And certain versions the G45 (intels next intergrated graphics, 3 different versions) will offer better performance.

The thermal envelope of Montevina is reputed to be in the 25W range, down from 35W under Santa Rosa with Penryn. This lower TDP is, of course, with the regular non-LV CPUs (but those in the T8xxx series).

By definition this means a cooler running laptop that is significantly faster than the current generation U7600. The U7700 is likely an incremental update, barely noticeable in everyday tasks.

I am hoping that Apple will have an ace up there sleeve or I will end up getting the X62.

    Thanks for your answers.

Do you guys believe that around July Montevina will be available for ultraportables? I'm planning to take a TZ for that period, but if it goes 2009 I can't wait so long! :)

We have no information on this. Perhaps Asus will introduce this in their ultraportable lines since they have a history of doing so. No one knows about Sony. After all, the TZ sells by itself without significant changes, so why fix something that ain't broke?

I agree, TZ sells by itself for now. But for how long Sony intends to have an old chipset?

ask yourself. why asus makes such piece of crap as the EEE?

Because it can get away with it. People buy it. As long they are on the top of the foodchain, Sony will not bother with something that non-critical like the chipset.

Probably. Nehalem for notebooks is coming in Q2 2009, and Montevina is planned for this summer.

Is it possible for the Montevina platform to have a Merom processor?

Wrong. Montevina is built for 45nm processors. It cannot use Merom.
