I have a VGN-CR120E laptop that i bought about half a year ago. It never occured to me to use the camera capture utility until a few months ago. For some reason, I can take pictures but instead of getting an actual image of a person/object, i get a completely black picture. When i record, surprisingly it works. I have tried to figure out this problem with sony online chat support for a while and nothing has worked. I have updated my drivers, reinstalled the utilities, tried the hotfix, enabling/disabling the camera and still it does not allow me to take an actual "still" image. please, if anyone can help me. I'm going nuts trying to figure out what is wrong with it and i seriously cannot do another online chat convo with sony support as they have been telling me to do the same thing over and over again which has obviously NOT HELPED. =[ PLEASE HELP ME Thank you in advance

Hmmm, funny....
There have been a few FZ owners who had problems getting their cam to work, but this sounds like a different problem to me. If it wasn't so that you did succeeded in recording a movie 'd almost say it's broken in some way, but maybe it still is....
Do you have msn, yahoo messenger, Skype, or anything like that? I'm not sure about the others, but msn has a little problem solving tool that might help you discover what's wrong with it. I checked all possible advanced settings in the camera capture ut. (i have version 2.2), but i don't think that there's a setting witch could cause this problem.
I assume you had enough light when you tried making a picture with it, and that you didn't block the lens in any way? (i'm not taking you for a dumb-ass, i'm just trying to rule everything out). And in the worst case; do you still have warranty on your CR..? -
When i use skype and AIM the video chat works. Yeah, brightly lit room and with the camera capture program on, i can see myself but as i click "capture" it results in a all-black picture. =[
I believe i still have the warranty since it has not been a year since i purchased it. I was thinking of taking it to a sonystyle store to see if they can get it fixed for me. -
Ah, cool, that at least means there's nothing wrong with the camera but that it's a recording problem.
Could you tell my what your recording settings are in the Vaio camera capture ut. (the 'capture format' (movie) tab)., or post a screenshot of it?
I have it set to record in wmv, if you want to use another format this will only work if you have the needed codec's installed. If you don't have the correct codec's it might still record, but the screen would be black like you yours. Also make sure you allow it to use some of you hard drive space, otherwise it can't record anything. -
recording problem? i'm not sure if its a recording problem since the "movie" tab works. I can record things and the video comes out fine. It's actually the "still" picture tab that does not work. The images are projected in the camera capture but if i try capturing the picture, it comes out all black.
here is a print screen of the camera capture. I took a picture and i labeled the all-black picture for you. (i.e. i cut myself out of the picture which is the big white square in the middle)

Let me see if i got it right this time; you can take a picture, but you can't save it and it doesn't show up in the image bar under the camera window?
Did you select a folder to save the still images to in 'basic' tab in the settings menu, or is it blank? You've probably checked every setting a dozen times already, but just to make sure...
If thats not it i can't think of anything else then doing a re-install of the camera utility again, but now i probably sound like those Sony guys....
You haven't installed another camera or camera utility on your Vaio that could cause a conflict recently, or did a system/windows recovery? And did you check for viruses?
It could be that there's something wrong with your windows registry, but it is kinda hard to work on from this distance. A proper re-install should fix it to though. Did you do a re-boot after the un-install, wipe your registry clean with a registry cleaner, re-booted again, and then re-installed the utility again? -
Hi, i haf a sony vaio VGN-CR22G and up until a few months back, my motion eye was working fine but now, my pc can't detect it. When i use the camera capture utility, it says no input. I've tried looking in the device manager in the control panel to see if maybe the motion eye is disabled but its not even listed. What do i do??
