The same exact thing happens to both my touchpad and any external mouse I'm using. Randomly while in Windows 8 on my Vaio S13 my mouse will stop responding to clicks, it happens to both my touchpad and any external mouse I may be using. After a little while I'll regain sporadic control or partial control where only clicking certain parts of the screen will work and others will not (taskbar items) etc. It's very frustrating as it means I don't have complete control over my system when the mice stop responding. It seems to be Windows Explorer crashing or freezing as I have partial control over other applications but clicking is still wonky like if I'm right clicking or middle clicking when I'm actually left clicking.

Keyboard commands like ALT-F4 and Ctrl-T stop working as well momentarily at times yet I can still type and CTRL + ALT + DELETE. I've never any a problem like this on any computer and it's really starting to worry me that something may be wrong with my motherboard or Intel USB controller or something. Rebooting fixes everything however.

Has anyone else had this happen to them on Windows 8? Are there any solutions? I'm about to implode out of frustration.

Did you ever discover the cause or a solution? I experience this bizarre behavior too, usually in only some of the programs or windows I am using. Not sure if it is hardware, software, or operating system related - very annoying when clicks don't work :(
