Hi,
I have a Vaio NR21Z which I dropped and is unrepairable. The NR21Z has Vista Home Premium installed. Is there any way of using this Vista license on my Vaio Fe31H, which currently has XP Media Centre Edition?
I assume that the recovery disks won't work on the FE31-Is that right? Would it make any difference if I just pulled out the Hard Disk from my NR21Z (It still works) and put it into my FE31?
Any ideas?
Thanks

Now, it has got to do with OEM keys, which is an issue. It works for some. Normally OEM keys cannot be reused, and are tied to the specific motherboard through one of the ACPI tables.
You can try out the NR21Z HDD in your Fe31H, and boot in safe mode, and install the appropriate drivers.
If the 2 notebooks have a different chipset, you'll probably get a BSOD (0x7B), and you can't really do anything about it, since it is hard to run a repair install in Vista.
The recovery discs may not work, as they were made specifically for the NR21Z (drivers, utilites and stuff).
So, best is to just try out the OEM key on the other FE31H when installing with a proper Vista Install Media. (You'll be breaking the MS EULA) -
Thanks Andy.
I'll try these ways in. I might be back with more questions though...
