    Hi,

I've a SZ VGN650. I use it to run MIDI performance synths, which requires extreme resource useage. I've tweaked the computer, removing Aero and shutting down services, startups, etc. The computer is stable and handles my MIDI synths well. But, when I'm not using the computer for work, I'd like to be able to switch back to having all the Vista settings that I've given up to increase the performance of the laptop. I've tried setting up a different user account, but both seem incapable of running different configurations. Is there a way to switch from my custom setting to a more traditional one without manually turning on and off services, startups, etc.?

I'd appreciate any suggestion with this.

It's a bit extreme, in terms of hard drive space, but you COULD set up a dual boot with two instances of Vista.

Yes there is a way. well there was a way in winXP. It was called hardware profile. With it you cud have multiple hardware profiles as well as limiting certain drivers.
When the system is booted, it will ask to select a profile 1st and then continues booting. Once u personalise it it will retain the settings for that profile.

I dont know abt vista, cos I currently dont have it on this machine I am using.

That doesn't exist in Vista and even if it did it only handles HARDWARE configurations. It does nothing towards the OP goal of having different SOFTWARE configurations.
