anyone encounter the same problem or only me?

Or is there any problem with the driver so the display can only handle 1600*900?

I might return for a refund if it is not FHD

There are 2 models for the Z, one's 1920x1080 and one's 1600x900. You sure you got the first model? It isn't possible for driver updates to increase resolutions.

I bought the 1920*1080 one, but max resolution on my system is 1600*900, any possibility that BIOS is restraining the resolution?

Does 1600x900 look funny? (not sharp). If it looks sharp then it's definitely not a 1080p display. Either you ordered the wrong one, or Sony screwed up.

    it does not look funny

The sony rep says premium 1080p means that the HDMI can handle 1080p movie

is he an idiot or am I cheated?

I did buy the premium 1080p FHD display

there is a possibility that the previous owner (since this is a refurb unit) switched the FHD panel with this 1600*900, since the FHD sticker is still on the palm rest. It is weird that sony did not examine products before sending out or taking return

I guess many of the technicians themselves do not know what is native FHD

well firstly...if u're just going by the sticker i think anyone can just put a sticker on...secondly im pretty sure its pretty difficult to change the screen panels in the z, i think there was a thread in here a while back someone asking if its possible to do a lcd swap to a fhd one and short answer was no. I THINK

worst part is that I bought 8 gigs of corsair 8g 8500 overnight, and a screen protector for 30 bucks, and dismantled 2 X18 160gs for this laptop

    sony just ruined my dream
