A fall down the stairs right onto tiled floor. Called up Sony...It sucks that I didnt get Accidental Warranty but did get Extended Warranty.

I bet this will cost me more then 1000$ to fix. Not only is the LCD broken but so is the casing.

I feel bad, REAL bad. Desktop with a broken LCD which is what Im typing on and a broken LCD/casing to my $3000CND SZ laptop.

Are you still in your first year of warranty? If so I think you can still buy the accidental warranty and then use it to fix your screen. (You can order the warranty online)

Sony has no way of knowing that an accident already occured if u decide to buy the accidental.

I might be wrong, correct me if i am.

I am in the first year of buying it, got it 1st April. Say if I bought the notebook in store I can still order the warranty? I asked the guy on the phone at the sony store where I bought it he was like it costs 800$ to get it but I didnt know that I still could...Will read up on it. Appreciate the suggestion.

Yeah, do as Jess said and find out what, if anything, still works.

    That sucks though.

You should be able to buy the warranty online. I just bought mine from newegg.com today. I called Sony last night and they said it's fine. I believe you're buying the contract, and all you do is register online with the contract code. You can purchase the extended warranty anytime - if you have more than 30 days left in your first year.

    Part# are: PCGA-2SYLPA, PCGA-3SYLPA, PCGA-4SYLPA

My SZ360 is brand new and works perfectly, whereas yours is already broken. Therefore, you will be breaking some rule of ethics by doing this.

All I can say is that it won't cost $1000 to fix the LCD if you don't go with Sony. You should get able to get a new screen for hundreds less.

illka99 I owe you big time.

Here is how I saved myself, played it magically:

As I bought it from the sony store, I know the guy called him up said I was travelling, he's like oh great, Im like look I want to get accidental warranty your website says that I can get it within a year of purchase. I was like how much is it, he was like 249$CND starting price for a year that will go from the date of purchase. Im like I want that, and because he knows me he I asked him if I needed to bring my laptop he said no, he trusts me.

Asked me to come in tommorow get the accidental warranty, and then in a week so it doesnt look apparent Im gonna go to another sony store and give the laptop for repair...wont cost me anything except the $250 for the warranty.

If he had asked me to bring my laptop, I would have taken my dads, because we bought them at the same time, so he cant tell whose is whose and neither can I, for that reason :D

    Im evil I know.

@ rahulnirmal: The casing is also broken :p plus I dont know what else could be broken, maybe the webcamera?

I'm very glad I helped you man!!!

I had a similar problem where i kind of dropped/ smashed my laptop against the desk and the side casing came off a little. (everything else is good as new) I also did not have an accidental at that point and bought it online. Still didn't repair is though because wanted to get finals over with.

The only thing is that they won't take in your laptop at the sony store for repair you have to call the Sony Repair

It's not just the LCD that needs replacing obviously, most of the case will have to be replaced too.
Knowing how much sony parts are, you'll be *very* lucky if it costs less than $1,000.
I even think you'd better off buying a new laptop.

So if the extra warranty works, I'll be playing this card instead.

Back in '99, the LCD on my first laptop (a gateway something-or-other ---- only cost me 2,500 bucks or so! :p) got stepped on while I was away from my apartment. Of course, no one fessed up to the deed.... to make matters worse, I was in Sydney, Australia. The laptop was only a couple months old at that point and had been bought in the US. Erg.

It took a LOT of cajoling to get Gateway to repair the LCD (luckily, there was a gateway warehouse/repair center in Sydney, not too far from my place).. but it all worked out in the end. I still occasionally use the old lappy -- it typed many a paper for me in grad school. ;)
