    Hello, everyone.

    I own a Sony VAIO T (14 inches) laptop.

A few weeks ago, the audio jack had a hardware problem. It is when I noticed that the right "wrist rest" of the laptop felt warmer than usual.

I sent it to the service center to have the audio jack repaired and I also mentioned to the technicians that the right wrist rest felt warmer.

Now the laptop is with me and the audio jack has been fixed. They said that they checked my complaint about the warm wrist rest and noted that they changed something in the software to address if it were a concern. They have reformated the laptop (unlucky me).

Now the wrist rest still feels warm. :( I honestly don't know if I have noticed this because of the audio jack problem. I am not even sure if I the warmth has always been there and I just haven't noticed.

Am I just being paranoid? I do feel sometimes that I don't get to sense the warm spot if I pay no attention to it.

I know laptops tend to get warm, but I think it is rather weird to have a warm wrist rest (right side) because it would feel uncomfortable.

Also, I am running only Google Chrome and the Wifi connection and the wrist rest is still warm. Is this really normal? Anybody else here with a VAIO that feels warm on the same spot?

    It feels so frustrating. :(

    Thank you.

it could be that the hard drive is on the right side, so it feels warmer than the left side. before i switched the HDD to an SSD in my VAIO SA, the right palmrest used to become warmer than the left.

    Thank you darxide.

I do believe that the HDD is on the right palmrest of my VAIO.

But like I said, I only started noticing this after the audio jack problem. I am not sure if I have just been ignoring it way before.

Question though: What is the regular temperature for HDDs?

Also, does the outside environment affect the laptop's temperature? I noticed 4 days ago that the right palmrest didn't really feel warm when I was inside an airplane.

If anybody would like to share his or her experience regarding this "warm" thing on their VAIOs, please do so. :)

    Thank you again so much.

yes, the ambient temperature outside does affect the laptop's temperature directly. i think you're worrying too much about it (which is understandable), but to be on the safe side, download a monitoring software (like HWMonitor or HWiNFO64) and check your HDD's (and other components') temperature.
