MY VGN-C240E, running Vista Premium, just shutdown by itself while I was just browsing the web (using firefox), and now it won't boot (or do anything) when pressing the power on button.

Anyone know what could this mean?

Not a hint of life? Not even a beep? Try holding down the power button for 10 seconds.

If that has no effect, disconnect the mains power and remove the battery and leave the computer for an hour. Then replace and reconnect and try again. Sometimes this can clear a fault.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this same scenario happened to my S260 about a year ago. Did all that, and finally had to call Sony.

It ended up being the motherboard. I don't know how it happened because the last time I was working on it, it was actually running on battery power. Had to ship it to San Diego (my nearest service center) to get replaced. Fortunately it was still under warranty but that sucker cost about $800 (was on the invoice when I got it back) but they put my HD back so I didn't get it erased.

I seriously hope this isn't the case for you if you are not under warranty. But if you are, no biggie, just call Sony and you should get it back in no time. Took about 1 1/2 weeks to get mine back. Just back up your HD just incase.

    Good Luck.
